This series aren’t amazing mysteries, but they are well thought out and entertaining. I always look forward to the next book.

The chill of a San Francisco summer can be deadly. No one knows this better than Capri Sanzio, who makes her living giving serial killer tours of the city. Not stingy with the clues
Revisado: 04-19-25
Unlike many mysteries, the story was reasonable with clues. For those, like me, that see a cute cover and see potential for a mystery with some humor. I’m sorry no humor. Very much a cozy mystery.

Historia
August 1816. England is in the grip of what will become known as the Year Without a Summer. Facing the twin crises of a harvest-destroying volcanic winter and the economic disruption caused by the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the British monarchy finds itself haunted by the looming threat of bloody riots not seen since the earliest days of the French Revolution. Amidst the turmoil, a dead man is found hanging upside down by one leg in an abandoned chapel, his hands tied behind his back. The pose eerily echoes the image depicted on a tarot card known as Le Pendu, the Hanged Man.

Not as intense as earlier titles
Revisado: 04-18-25
This book wasn’t as intense as many of the earlier books, but it was still enjoyable. The mystery was still active and full of interesting details.

It’s fine
Revisado: 04-16-25
This has potential to be amazing, unfortunately it seemed at times to move too quickly and others too slow. The hero seems to find allies a little too easily with little to no hesitation on the allies part.
Where growth of a relationship would have been welcomed. And where some action could have moved the story along well our hero plays the depressed lethargic love sick boy.

I touched her confectionary creation, and she told me off. Slapping my hands and cursing in her own unique fashion. No one talked to me that way. I liked it. I liked her cake even more. So, I took her to Italy to bake for me. I should have asked her first, but I had a feeling she'd say no. But I brought her cat, so that should count for something.

Historia
Miss Permilia Griswold may have been given the opportunity of a debut into New York high society, but no one warned her she wasn't guaranteed to "take". After spending the last six years banished to the wallflower section of the ballroom, she's finally putting her status on the fringes of society to good use by penning anonymous society gossip columns under the pseudonym "Miss Quill". When Permilia overhears a threat against the estimable Mr. Rutherford, she's determined to warn him.

Very unfortunate
Revisado: 04-09-25
The story is rushed. The opportunity for the reader to be apart of a more involved growth in H and h relationship is a missed opportunity. H accepts h peculiar nature for to quickly and easily. And h peculiar nature is over the top.
I wouldn’t recommend this book

Historia
Lady Theodosia Balfour has certainly gotten the short end of the stick—her stepsister, the newly crowned Princess Beatrice, is telling everyone in polite society that Theo, her sister, and their mother are evil, wicked, and horrid people who treated her like a slave. Though Theo knows this isn't exactly true, it seems her life is thoroughly ruined by the rumor. With the Balfour family estate on the verge of bankruptcy, Theo's only path forward is a forced betrothal to the Duke of Snowbell, a foul-tempered geezer who wishes only to use her as a brood mare for spare heirs.

I assumed
Revisado: 03-30-25
I’m not sure why but I began listening with the misconception that there would be some humor to this tale. There isn’t. It did take me a bit to get into the story. I think the beginning was a bit of a struggle due to how well Theo (step sister) is portrayed, nasty. Regardless you still feel for her when she finds herself trapped in a web made by her mother.

Do people really need explicit language
Revisado: 03-27-25
I just don’t understand the need for explicit language when it does nothing for the story. If I wanted to read that kind of language I would pickup a MC or mob book. But I was hoping for a series that would be entertaining and humorous without the constant crude dialogue. DNF I got half way and gave up.

Historia
When Lydia takes a job running the Senior Citizens’ Social Club three afternoons a week, she assumes she’ll be spending her time drinking tea and playing gentle games of cards. The members of the Social Club, however, are not at all what Lydia was expecting. From Art, a failed actor turned kleptomaniac to Daphne, who has been hiding from her dark past for decades to Ruby, a Banksy-style knitter who gets revenge in yarn, these seniors look deceptively benign—but when age makes you invisible, secrets are so much easier to hide.

More pros than cons
Revisado: 03-27-25
The cons- a little heavy on the ageism message, a definite and clear political leaning (I prefer it when I can finish a book with no clear idea of the author’s political views)
Pros -quite humorous, narrator does the dry humor beautifully, the underlying story was enjoyable.
Will I read another of her books, maybe. I read fiction to enjoy time away from the real world and any blatant political messages pulls me out of that experience.

Lacking
Revisado: 03-27-25
A good mystery can have elements that the reader knows while the characters struggle to put elements together. But when the characters are supposed to be savvy and clever and one is a retired decorated detective, yet basic steps of verification aren’t done it seems ridiculously weak story line for such a story.
