Historia
Having been abandoned on the steps of an orphanage as an infant, lovable car thief and Dublin charmer Mahony assumed all his life that his mother had simply given him up. But when he receives an anonymous note suggesting that foul play may have led to his mother's disappearance, he sees only one option: to return to the rural Irish village where he was born and find out what really happened 26 years ago.

Wonderful listen
Revisado: 07-10-24
One of my favorite listens. The story set in Ireland, has a mystical element in the character Mahoney who can see the dead. Mahoney, an orphan raised by nuns, returns to the town of his birth to find his mother. Around that storyline, others are built with engaging characters, both lovable and not. Aidan Kelly's narration is spot on and brings the small town to life. I wilI add this book to my "All Time Greats" list

Rookie Det. Kenda investigates a 1975 case that begins with the murder of a beloved Colorado philanthropist and society figure whose husband, a gambler and womanizer, appears to have an air-tight alibi. Mentored by his veteran partner Det. Lee Wilson, a former Nashville singer turned skilled investigator, Kenda’s case quickly attracts attention from the FBI, CIA, and Interpol, for its similarity to a string of killings involving wealthy married women. All the murders appear to have been committed by a hired professional.

Compelling Story
Revisado: 11-11-23
I'm a big fan of Joe Kenda's TV shows but I didn't quite know what to expect with a fictional story. I was delightfully surprised at how engaging and intricate the story was. The narration is outstanding. Recommend!

Historia
Samantha Irby’s career has taken her to new heights. She dodges calls from Hollywood and flop sweats on the red carpet at premieres (well, one premiere). But nothing is ever as it seems online, where she can crop out all the ugly parts. Irby got a lot of weird emails about Carrie Bradshaw, and not only is there diarrhea to avoid, but now—anaphylactic shock. She is turned away from restaurants for being inappropriately dressed and looks for the best ways to cope, i.e., reveling in the offerings of QVC and adopting a deranged pandemic dog.

What am I missing here?
Revisado: 07-15-23
This book sounded so promising. I was so happy to get my credits and listen. After listening for a few hours, I just turned it off and marked it as finished. I was bored to tears. I did not find it funny or even mildly amusing or interesting. I read all the reviews which seem to range from the wildly affirmative to total dislike. What is it that I and others are missing here?

Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

I didn't want it to end....
Revisado: 02-23-23
Absolutely one of the best books I've read in the past few years. I loved it and I wanted it to go on and on.....
Three sisters, separated by life circumstances, come together again by chance. They discover the powers they had inherited and join together to defeat an evil spirit. In the process, they find healing and unity. I don't want to say much more as I don't want to spoil it for any future reader. Great narration!

I remember seeing this on the shelf
Revisado: 02-23-23
I remember seeing this on the shelf in my childhood home along with other Mary Stewart books. My Mom, who was an avid reader had them all. Now, at my grandmother stage of life, I decided to read one.
It was lovely, a sweet story with a bit of mystery thrown in. It is one of those books that if you have the right narration, and Jilly Bond was just that, it will wash over you with a gentle warmth. It is not fast paced or shocking, just a good story told well.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Really, really, really good.
Revisado: 02-19-23
I can't say I have been into the music of Foo Fighters and Nirvana. I had heard of both bands, of course. I knew that Dave Grohl has experienced the loss of both Taylor Hawkins and Kurt Cobain. I had heard a few songs. So I was really surprised that I felt drawn to this book. Perhaps it was that 1000 watt smile that Grohl has because it reminded me of a long ago friend. I don't know. I told myself that I could always turn the book off if I found it stupid, shallow or tedioius. It is none of those things.
First of all, don't read the book in print. Listen as Dave tells his stories himself as his voice adds so much to his very well written words. His narration is warm and makes the listener feel like he's sitting right in the room. His voice communicates the emotions behind the stories making them relatable.
And the stories! It's a wonderful journey the listener takes with him through the years and memories of his life. I began the book as a curious listener with very little knowledge about Dave Grohl. I ended it with a few tears, struck by the wisdom, insight and beauty of his words, and as a newly minted Dave Grohl fan.
