The end is enraging
Revisado: 07-10-24
I could get through the various voice actors’ take on each character, despite it making it very difficult to maintain a consistent image of each character in my head. I could get through the sometimes repetitive, overused phrases that sounded like the author just learned a new word and wanted to use it several times in a short span of the book. I could even get past the anticlimactic conflict resolution throughout the main story points. What I can’t forgive is the absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic response of the MC at the end of this book.
*****Spoilers Ahead *****
This 18yo girl fights and nearly dies, overturns a whole country because she’s in love with this boy. Then when it’s all over, she’s just like, “wait for me or don’t 🤷🏻♀️” and leaves?! WTAF????

I want more action
Revisado: 12-13-23
Ok this one was probably my least favorite of the books so far and that sucks because I absolutely adore this series. Still wonderfully written and performed. Absolutely worth the listen. My only complaint is that this book felt very much like a filler/bridge/book two in a trilogy. It just left me waiting for the next book and asking “what?! That’s it?!” at the end. You should still get the book if only to tide you over until book twelve!

Weird and random
Revisado: 10-10-22
I don’t think I’m artsy enough to fully “get” this story. The performance was good and I feel like I was supposed to get something deep from it but it just felt disjointed and incomplete.

Narration was distracting from overall good story
Revisado: 07-16-21
The original narrator from the first two books was way better. The voice used for Yvette in this edition was very squeaky and whiny. Sidra's voice is inconsistent and seems to go in and out of accent. It's very distracting from an otherwise good series of books.

From playwright, author and Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg, When You Finish Saving the World tells the moving and evocative story of three individuals working to understand each other and themselves: Nathan, a father learning to connect with his newborn son; Rachel, a young college student seeking to find her place in a relationship and in life, before marriage to Nathan; and Ziggy, their son, a teenager hoping to figure out where he came from, and where he’s headed.

This story is exhausting.
Revisado: 09-11-20
It might have been better if presented as a mix of the three characters' narratives, instead of each character in bulk. Nathan's recordings became so anxiety-inducing for me that I had to skip ahead to check if the other characters were any better. I don't really understand what story is being told at this point other than the same day-to-day ramblings that I find on social media. That's it. It's like someone reading their own social feed or journal out loud and I just feel like the world doesn't need more of people sharing the random ramblings in their heads.

The last winged horses are on the brink of extinction. At a sanctuary for threatened creatures, the home of a young dragon rider and his silver dragon, three foals lie curled up in their eggs. The foals are in great danger, and the only cure seems to be the sun-feather of a griffin. But griffins, creatures with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, are a dragon's fiercest enemy, and they live far across the world in the sweltering jungle. A dangerous and exciting adventure begins....

Narration mistakes are distracting
Revisado: 02-08-19
The first book in this series was really well done. this one, however, is one of those cases where the narration takes away from the story (which has a weak premise to begin with - why can't they build an incubator?). Guinevere's name is pronounced incorrectly by both narrators in this book and by the way why are there two narrators any way? They seem to switch arbitrarily which is distracting. I could do without the music and sound effects too. Books are for imagination.

Slow start, kind of anticlimactic end
Revisado: 01-28-18
The first eight chapters are really hard to get to as the author feels the need to bring everyone up to speed on basically all things nerdy (references, lingo, etc.). I seriously considered stopping there as the pedantic overexplanations were starting to grate on my nerves. I remember thinking "the nostalgic novelty of this plot isn't worth listening to what sounds like someone trying to explain internet culture to my grandma." The story eventually did pick up and got exciting for a bit. Honestly though, too much time spent describing the decaying life of the main character (e.g. the random diatribe about masturbation - I found it funny and interesting but in the course of the plot, it felt like filler material). Also, the ability of the main character to basically do whatever he wanted with no consequences because of the mad hacking skills that he suddenly seemed to acquire makes it feel a bit lazy. Then, you get to the big ending and it's just sort of a let down. Overall, it's an interesting exploration of gaming culture but a hit or miss plot takes away from some of the more powerful commentary, like the disparity in treatment of women and POCs compared to white men even in the virtual world - and the power of anonymity in overcoming that bias.

The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

A confusing experience...
Revisado: 01-18-18
Terry Pratchett is my favorite author, but I found it very distracting to listen to multiple authors reading all the characters. Each person had their own interpretation of the voices so they changed throughout the reading, which made it very hard to follow. Add that distraction to a story line that is all pretty "high level quantum physics meets Buddhism" in nature and you've got a recipe for a mind boggling, disjointed experience. Give this one a listen if you are in for an existential crisis. Not my favorite Discworld piece.

Great cast narration for an overall good story. Would recommend for Gaiman fans. The story is a really interesting perspective on death and how it relates to life and living.
