I deeply admire an author who wants their written work to be perfect. Shelton Williams has continued doing that with his Covey Jencks series. I must say I love, love that Covey and his girlfriend Jay Jay are back in this omnibus series of The Covey Jencks Mysteries, Love and Murder Deep in the Heart of Texas.

Covey Jencks is a lawyer who has returned to his hometown of Odessa, Texas. Jay Jay soon enters his life as his girlfriend. Over the course of this three-book series, they form a relationship surrounded by mysteries with a murder or two or three that they end up helping solve.

Always with these books, Shelton’s writing includes many aspects of historical authenticity. Those historical touches are highlighted even more in this omnibus series.

Narrator, Stephen E. Lookadoo Jr. for this series nails the interpretation of these stories. Lookadoo’s voice portrays Covey’s and Jay Jay’s personalities off the pages impressively. I listened to this audiobook at the speed of 1.25x on Audible. Hands down he brought the characters and story to life with flawlessness, along with impeccable pacing. His vocal distinctions were seamless among all the characters.

This series is immersive from the beginning page to the last. Williams takes readers on mystery journeys to east Texas, China, and of course west Texas.

I highly recommend The Covey Jencks Mysteries, Love and Murder Deep in the Heart of Texas audiobook omnibus mystery series by Shelton Williams. Maybe you’ll fall in love with this series as I have.

A year ago, I read Creatrix Rising in September 2021. When I got the chance to listen to review the audiobook edition I jumped on it and I’m so ecstatic I did.

The Creatrix Rising audiobook became the perfect reminder of the positive uplifting affirmations from the actual book I read. And to be honest, have needed it in these last few months of my busy life.

The message from this author is for older women to not stand still, not become some old croone is enhanced with the audio version. That’s the beauty of this book – it shows women that accepting your past, talking about it, and evolving to become better is what is supposed to happen. All women should evolve to become better than we were in our 30s and 40s.
Thankfully, Stephanie is not the first person I have encountered stating the Bible is a metaphor for living for a past long gone. I love how Stephanie helped teach women in a detention center.

The author performed her own audio for her book. Her voice is pleasantly pleasing and her story is ecstatically delivered. I listened at 2x the speed. Inflections of her words and tone were perfect.

The only challenging part of the audiobook is that after each chapter Stephanie provides a follow-up area for readers to delve into personal practice on reflecting, activities, and journaling you can do at your own pace.

Creatrix Rising is an impeccable book reminding me to stop self-doubting myself. And it will remind you as a woman to stop self-doubting yourself. Creatrix Rising is the perfect audiobook for women ages 30 – 80 who have no time to actually read and most importantly to help you become and create the woman you want to be. Now to make this so…

Stephanie’s Creatrix Rising is the perfect book to help you become a better you.

First, my apologies to the author, David Meredith. It took me a lot longer to get around to listening to this book. Now, I wish I had listened long ago. His book is a gem.

The Reflections of Queen Snow White is not a story I was expecting. By the first couple of chapters, I became hooked on this story. Queen Snow White is in a massive depression from the death of Charming. The story takes readers into the world of Queen Snow White from how she was treated as a child to her marriage to Prince Charming. It is an imaginative story that takes Snow White on an introspective journey of her life. What she discovers is that love has always been around her and that she has so much to live for.

Robin Waters narrated the story with perfection with tones and inflections of old and young voices.

If you love fantasy that is the perfect escapism that can make your travel miles enjoyable then check out The Reflections of Queen Snow White. Thank you, David.

Yes! Yes! Covey and JayJay are back. And I am so thankful for their return is this killer third book by Shelton Williams.

Covey Jencks and JayJay’s adventures continue in The Chinese Murder of Edward Watts. Immersive from the beginning page, Williams takes readers in this third book on a winding ride that never stops from China to West Texas. From a current murder of an oilman to a historical story about a teenage girl getting killed decades earlier the story is fantabulous. What I have always liked about Shelton’s writing is his talent for including authentic historical perspectives.

The narrator, Dave Clark, nailed The Chinese Murder of Edward Watts narration with his somber voice that relates the story quite well even during the character changes. Clark brought the characters and story to life with perfection. His vocal distinctions were seamless among all the characters. His pacing was impeccable. Overall, the sound quality was superb. Clark’s voice made my work traveling miles quite enjoyable.

Covey and JayJay’s stories always surround a mystery with a murder or two that they try ending up solving. Covey continues with his role as a lawyer who has been hired by an oilman who has a deep dark secret to oversee a contract deal with China.

William’s writing is immensely improved in telling the third story of Covey and JayJay. While this story could be a stand-alone book, the story is so much better having read the other two books in this series. I highly recommend this mystery series by Shelton. Maybe you’ll fall in love with the main characters like I did.

Covey Jencks was my second audiobook and I’m glad it was. It was highly enjoyable to listen to especially after about the mid-point of the story. Shelton Williams crafted a deep mystery surrounding an old murder that intertwined a fast-paced story around a various cast of characters. As the story goes Covey, who left Odessa to become a lawyer, had been haunted by someone’s murder when he was a boy. The driving force of his move back to his hometown was to find out who actually committed the murder.

For the narration perspective, the reading of the front book material caught me off guard, as well as the story being read by a woman given the lead character was a male. After listening to the first few chapters that became a moot point. Kathy James carried the story well even given some mispronunciations. I found the reading speed of 1.25x to be best to listen to this book.

My initial thought was how can a small book of fewer than 165 pages have seventy-four chapters? I’ve always been chided by having small chapters in my own writing. As the audiobook progressed the small chapters made sense and soon I realized that each chapter stood on its own and lead into the next chapter.

What I picked up on during this reading was the many aspects of historical authenticity Shelton used to tell this story. From how some Texas towns had areas known as “The Flats”, to Underwood’s Restaurant, to how cars used to be washed, to the lone Mode O’Day store – this story could indeed have been nonfiction. Even though Shelton made mention for using the language he did, that factual language is what carried the story with even more legitimacy. Also loved that the author incorporated one of my favorite movie characters, Keyser Söze from the movie “The Usual Suspects.” Towards the end of this story, the description reference became perfect for the character situation solving this murder.

Then there are the last few words of the book… making me wonder if indeed the story of Covey will continue!

There is always a first for everything in your life. The Big Inch audiobook was my first.

Author Kimberly Fish weaves an authentic historical story around a variety of characters in Longview, Texas during WWII. Within this novel are authentic touches that included mentions of Citizen Kane to the use of a hearse being used as an ambulance.

The story revolves around the main character of Lane who is working as an undercover agent. She has skills beyond what a woman would have for the 1940s. I honestly kept hoping with every word of the narration that Lane would really show her skills against bullets flying or even against the man who happens to hurt a woman that Lane covered for.

Sydney Young performed an outstanding narration of all the various characters and dialogue in this book. There were times when her voice made the main character of Lane sound wimpy at least to my ear. Because at the end of the story, I saw Lane as a strong woman who would never have a wimpy voice. The narration carried me back in time envisioning what Longview would’ve looked like. It was a story that transports you back to an era when many parts of the world were experiencing war and surviving its ravages.

Yes – I would recommend the audiobook for anyone who loves wartime history with bits of romance thrown in that is authentically told and leaves you wondering where the story is going to lead. Honestly, speaking being that it was my first audiobook, I was surprised at how long the story took to tell vs. reading the actual book. But by listening I was able to drive and imagine a time when life was a tad simpler yet exceedingly difficult due to the war.
