Historia
Weirdly, people don’t react overly well when you’re caught standing over the dead body of a murderer who’d walked free. It’s not that I thought my fellow homicide detective would rejoice when he saw what I’d done, but is a pat on the back too much to ask for? Maybe a gold star at the very least? The problem is that the person who caught me is Gabriel, the only person I care for and adore… and he’s prepared to look the other way if I leave homicide and promise to never kill again.

Revisado: 04-03-25
Alice Winters is one of my favorite authors, and I anxiously await every new book. I have enjoyed every story from her, but she has outdone herself with this book. I can't wait for more in the series. Read this book - you won't be sorry.

Historia
The presence of a powerful entity taking refuge in his realm alarms Zepharali. This being has a dark aura, but also a sweet, irresistible scent he's never experienced. They could be an upper-level vampire, a warlock, a fire lord, or gods forbid, all three, capable of harnessing the dark elements, and making them the most formidable adversary he's ever faced. He hopes they can be reasoned with, because Zepharali has yet to unleash the full forces of his summer suns, which could shatter the peace of his realm.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-29-25
I'm having a hard time believing that this is the same author who wrote the excellent Nothing Special series. I hope this is not a new direction for her because it's not her strong suit. The narrator is new to me and did an excellent job.

Extremely difficult emotionally.
Revisado: 02-14-25
Gregory Ashe is one of my favorite authors, even though I'm not usually a fan of extreme angst. This story, however, has been very difficult for me. It is emotionally devastating and, had I known before, I would not have read it. It's just too much.

Did anyone listen to this narrator first?
Revisado: 01-14-25
I have listened to every book in this series, and here we are at book 16 with a new narrator. Did anyone listen to this narrator before giving her this book? I seriously doubt it since she is the worst. I particularly hate when a new narrator doesn't bother to listen to former interpretations of the characters and at least try to offer some continuity. Derek's and Ian's accents are particularly bad. Ian is completely different, and not an improvement. I think she was trying to portray him through his voice as a gay man, but she has obviously never spoken to a gay man in her life. This is such a disservice to an entertaining series and to the characters.

Historia
When word comes that two key witnesses in an investigation are dead, North and Shaw are surprised—and pleased—to learn that their friend, John-Henry Somerset, is interested in hiring them as freelance contractors for the Wahredua police department. The department is stretched thin, and the investigation into the Cottonmouth Club (and the criminal organization operating there) is collapsing. Not to mention—in North and Shaw’s opinion, anyway—they’re the best detectives around.

Big mistake by narrator
Revisado: 02-27-24
Charlie David performed the Borealis series, so North and Shaw are his. He did a great job with them. What he did not do, however, is show the same respect that other performers of these intertwining series have show to him. Tristan James first voiced Emery Hazard and J.F. Harding continued the character as established. They also continued North and Shaw as originally read by Charlie David. Emery is not a minor character, as fans of these series know, having appeared in more than 18 books. In every appearance, he has had a deep, commanding voice which usually carries an edge of sarcasm and/or anger. It's obvious from the dialogue in this book that he has mellowed considerably, but I truly doubt that his voice has changed to that of a teen aged boy. Mr. David has done a terrible disservice to the character, and has shown real disrespect to the performer who established Emery. If you can't be bothered to do a little research into an established character, don't perform the damned book!

Fists, fangs, and fury. It's all a matter of balance when Jimmy Black, Charlotte's Vampire Master of the City, is tasked with discovering why a mostly bloodless, decapitated body shows up in a dumpster. After a little sniffing around, Jimmy uncovers problems he didn't even know he had. Like a murderous vampire running loose in the city.

What?????
Revisado: 02-21-24
I have loved this series from the first, and eagerly listened to every installment. This last one, though. Who ends an 8 book series on a cliffhanger?? And who wants to read anything more from an author who does that? It feels like he said, I'm bored with writing this series and am not going to take the time to come up with another plot. Too bad for you, readers. Joe Hempel's performance, as usual, was excellent.

Promising and enjoyable start to a series.
Revisado: 06-26-23
At first I thought this was going to be the usual boy leaves small town, leaves boyfriend behind, comes back years later, and all live happily ever after. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was wrong. It does start out looking that way, but as the story develops it takes an unusual and interesting turn. It took me a little to get into it because I had a bit of trouble getting used to the main character, but by the end I very much liked him and am looking forward to the other books in the series. The relationship with the old boyfriend is very interesting and I'm anxious to discover how that develops as well. The narrator is new to me, and it took some time to get accustomed to the cadence of his reading. It seemed choppy in the beginning and I don't know if he started to read more fluidly or if I just got used to his style, but I didn't mind it after a while. I would definitely recommend this story and can't wait to listen to the rest of the books as they become available.

A complete lack of common sense
Revisado: 04-16-23
Why does a woman who is supposed to be intelligent have such an absolute lack of common sense? She is thoroughly obnoxious in her insistence to be always right and in her incredible rudeness. This characterization lacks the nuances of personality that better authors have achieved with this sort of female character. The narrator, however, is excellent.

Poor Kip! A Valentine's Day date with gorgeous, wealthy Alistair Green ends before it even gets started, due to his date's mysterious death. Then there's the turmoil caused by the return of a long lost member of the Green family, a situation that Kip gets caught up in much to his surprise. Lots of twists and turns and some surprises. I'm becoming very fond of Kip and am looking forward to his next adventure.
