Historia
On November 18, 1967, Private First Class Davis' artillery unit was hit by a massive enemy offensive. At 21 years old, he resolved to face the onslaught and prepared to die. Soon he would have a perforated kidney, crushed ribs, a broken vertebra, his flesh ripped by beehive darts, a bullet in his thigh, and burns all over his body. Ignoring his injuries, he manned a two-ton Howitzer by himself, crossed a canal under heavy fire to rescue three wounded American soldiers, and kept fighting until the enemy retreated.

This book touched my soul and my heart. Thank you Mr Davis for your service and your honesty. Although several parts moved me, the epilogue made me speechless. His dedication to America and our values is beyond reproach and I just wish all Americans understood what it meant to be born or become a legal citizen of this great country. God bless Mr Davis and all those that have fought for our country and especially those families that don’t know what happened to their love one.

Historia
Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

Really enjoyed this book. Can’t wait to read the other books by this author. Had no idea about Hedy Lamarr. The only thing I would have liked is if the author would have added a chapter or two about her escape to France and then her later life but I guess that is something I can research on my own.

Historia
In the first full-scale biography of Mary Stuart in more than 30 years, John Guy creates an intimate and absorbing portrait of one of history's most famous women, depicting her world and her place in the sweep of history with stunning immediacy. Bringing together all surviving documents and uncovering a trove of new sources for the first time, Guy dispels the popular image of Mary Queen of Scots as a romantic leading lady - achieving her ends through feminine wiles - and establishes her as the intellectual and political equal of Elizabeth I.

I have read many a book about Mary and thought I knew her story but i was wrong. The research done for this book is tremendous. Very well written and captivating because you want to know what else John Guy turned up. I would have loved to have been a part of the research team.

Historia
Young Elizabeth Stuart was thrust into a life of wealth and splendor when her godmother, Queen Elizabeth I, died and her father, James I, ascended to the illustrious throne of England. At 16 she was married to a dashing German count far below her rank, with the understanding that James would help her husband achieve the crown of Bohemia. Her father's terrible betrayal of this promise would ruin "the Winter Queen", as Elizabeth would forever be known, imperil the lives of those she loved, and launch a war that would last for 30 years.

Lots of Research Went On
Revisado: 12-18-18
It was amazing all the actual letters that were quoted in this book. Sometimes it was a little daunting while listening to it. I would have loved to see a family genealogy - maybe the book has this - because it was hard to keep up who was who at times. I am a Mary Queen of Scots fan so loved to learn more about her legacy.

Heroism At It’s best
Revisado: 09-21-18
It is my privilege to add this brave woman and her children to the list of those that tried to make it better for others in such a horrible place as Auschwitz. I was disappointed in liberties that were taken with the historical record but it was a good read. And important in the history of the camp.

A Must Read
Revisado: 09-19-18
For anyone who wants to know and understand more of the horrors that the Jewish and others dealt with during the Holocaust and how they were able to survive and live on, this is a must read. Standing in a place like Auschwitz, one can simply not grasp the entire reality of what went on - this book, unfortunately, made the place come alive and you understood better and it infuriates you even more on how people can treat people so terribly. For us readers, it helps us explain how books can save a soul. I will recommend this to anyone asking for a great, life changing book!

To Read Is To Begin To Understand
Revisado: 04-03-18
I have just now began to read the historical fiction surrounding World War II. Being a history major, I always have asked how could the German people go along with Hitler. This book was a start on how - I cried, I laughed, I hated along with the characters. I wanted the book to go on. Thank you Jessica Shattuck for such an insightful book.
