Being allowed o die
Revisado: 12-02-24
Subject of supportive care while you’re dying is a subject that really needs to be addressed as this author does.
Obviously, a difficult subject for relatives whose loved ones are reaching the their lives – – not from treatable ailments but their bodies just wearing out

Historia
After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

Temperance Brennan has been asked to examine the corpses of three dead babies in Montreal. It’s a difficult assignment, complicated further by the fact that her long-time flame Detective Ryan is investigating the infants’ mother, a former (and possibly current) prostitute. When the woman flees to Edmonton, the investigation is joined by Royal Canadian Mounted Police sergeant with whom Tempe had an ill-advised fling over a decade earlier. The dissonant team heads to remotest Yellowknife - mining country - to pursue an ever more sinister trail.

Historia
Travis McGee is too busy with his houseboat to pay attention to the little old man with the missing postage stamps. Except these are no ordinary stamps. They are rare stamps. Four hundred thousand dollars worth of rare. And if McGee doesn't recognize their value, perhaps Mary Alice McDermit, a six-foot knockout who knows all the ways to a boat bum's heart, will. Only it's not McGee's heart that's in danger. Because a syndicate killer has put a contract on McGee.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I like the small number of people in story...as it is easier to 'keep track of characters" when listening.
What other book might you compare The Scarlet Ruse to and why?
i can only compare to authors other books because his writing style is one of my favorites.
Continues to include some of same characters in other books, like old friends...
Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?
I do like his performance....but I must admit I still think of main character as performed by Darin Mc Gavin in many past books. Just part of my memories....
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not extreme but sort of shocked at extent of main characters injuries..
Any additional comments?
Love the name of his houseboat--"Busted Flush"--won it in a high stakes poker game..

Historia
Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the appeal of endearing protagonist Precious Ramotswe and the author’s charmingly quirky prose. In this 13th installment, Mma Ramotswe’s attention is focused on a pesky disciplinary problem at her adopted daughter’s school - while Grace Makutsi adjusts to wedded bliss and the famed Clovis Andersen arrives in Botswana looking for more than bush tea.

Author gets better with every story.
Revisado: 05-18-12
What did you love best about The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection?
Simple approach to complicated situations. I loved the fact that Precious finally got to meet her longtime mentor. He tried to explain that he was not the expert she had admired for all these years. Precious, in her simple approach to her life in Botswana, maintained her faith in his expertise and enlisted his advise in a case.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection?
When they foiled the plans of wealthy man who conspired to change the whole concept of the Orphan Farm by building a 'communal" Dining room...in doing would have lined his own pockets.
Have you listened to any of Lisette Lecat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Have listened to many--this one was equally well done.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My main reaction was pure enjoyment with every chapter.
Any additional comments?
The main reason these books are so enjoyable, in addition to the great story lines, is that they are read with "English" accent. Just reading the words in a "regular' book, you miss all the nuances built into the story line. The pure simplicity of the lifestyle so well depicted by the author, is brought put by the readers talent.
