Great story, well read except for the screaming!
Revisado: 04-26-22
The story is well done and brings good insight into the Biblical stories. The story is well read except for the screaming of the quotations....very nerve-wracking and loud. This book should be re-read without the screaming.

Enjoyed this book several years ago and still have the hardback in my library. Thought I'd like to give it a listen. Discovered that Audible broke it into thirds and sold each third as a separate book. If this is a trend..... count me out.

If you like Stephen King's "The Stand", you will love this apocalyptic tale of good vs. evil. Filled with well defined characters and narrated beautifully. It had me laughing and crying at the same time.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

mesmerizing
Revisado: 02-17-13
If you want to know about WWII....read (listen) Rise and Fall of the Third Reich first for a great factual background.....have a good map on hand. Then, read Herman Wouk's Winds of War which is the first book of this 2-book series. Then listen to this one. Herman Wouk is brilliant in his depiction of human nature at it's best, and it's worst.
His characters bring it all to life and will have you laughing and sobbing and will leave you with a new sense of it all.

Historia
What if the year we have long commemorated as America’s defining moment was in fact misleading? What if the real events that signaled the historic shift from colony to country took place earlier, and that the true story of our nation’s emergence reveals a more complicated - and divisive - birth process? In this major new work, iconoclastic historian and political chronicler Kevin Phillips upends the conventional reading of the American Revolution by puncturing the myth that 1776 was the struggle’s watershed year. Mythology and omission have elevated 1776, but the most important year, rarely recognized, was 1775.

Ancient Egypt. Land of the Pharaohs. A kingdom built on gold. A legend shattered by greed. Now the Valley of Kings lies ravaged by war, drained of its lifeblood, as weak men inherit the cherished crown. On the eve of the festival of Osiris, the loyal subjects of the Pharaoh gather in Thebes to pay tribute to their leader.
Exploding with all the passion and rage of a bygone time, River God is a masterpiece of historical writing.

Don't Miss This One
Revisado: 03-24-12
As an avid reader of historical fiction from Michner to Cornwell I must say this has been the most stirring story I've ever (read). It is a rich story of Egypt during a time of great transition. Full of historical facts, River God is a wonderfully written and performed story that is peopled with rich characters, adventures and intrigues. Wilbur Smith kept me in a high emotional state from laughter to tears. Do not miss this masterpiece.
