I want my 12 hours back
Revisado: 05-05-19
Paul Gianatti did an excellent job, and that’s the last nice thing I can say. Whole I’ve read some good Dick novels, this isn’t one of them. It was pointless drug addled ramblings.

Not the best in the series
Revisado: 10-14-18
This was a transitional story that takes the undying mercenaries in a different direction. I suspect the next one will make better use of the plot lines set up here. But this story was a little flat. Having no real suspense and little purpose.

Enthusiastic but Juvenile Performance
Revisado: 09-19-18
I think I didn’t like this book. It’s a favorite genre, and never really jumped the shark at any specific moment, but the performance was distractingly bad. In the first moments of listening I decided that the narrator had to be the producer’s cousin because no professional actor could be that bad. He gets credit for energy but sounds like a high school kid. His gunshot sounds were particularly annoying. The story ends abruptly and no doubt continues in the next book but I’ll live in suspense rather than endure the narration again.

Deus Machina was on sale
Revisado: 07-15-18
This is just bad writing. The story was good. The descriptions of sword fights were descriptive and entertaining. But the writing completely laced foreshadowing. “New problem or villain, well I have this maguffin in my coat that will fix just that!” Poor writing.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Revisado: 04-30-18
I just found this book to be unengaging. It was dystopian, depressing, and derivative. Kind of left me feeling the way snow piercer did. Just sad. I wouldn’t really recommend it.

After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. Amateurish
Revisado: 02-13-18
I’ve got an 8year old. Love her dearly. She can ramble on and on about the most mundane things. But I love her and could listen to her for hours. I don’t love Mr. Zunker. I suspect my eight year old could have written a better story.
There are many reasons why this was a plodding, predictable trudge through mundanity, but I’ll sum it all with one example of the writing ineptitude on display. Within the first five minutes we are introduced to a skill possessed by the protagonist that seems almost supernatural. We are assured in the first person narrative that he can see escape routes in his head and can elude the most daunting trap with his incredible mind. HE NEVER USES THIS ABILITY ONCE! (Sorry for shouting, it was just frustrating) I really had the impression the writer had no clear direction from the start and meandered through the story hoping to find an ending. There are constant references to the hero’s incredible mind and intelligence that are just not exhibited. Everyone he meets takes the time to tell him he is exceptional, ad nauseam, but we NEVER see evidence of it.
It was just a really dull story that would not end. Hated it.

Drivel!
Revisado: 01-11-18
Oh how I hated this book. It was very hard to finish this America hating, anti Christian, self indulgent sermon on the evil intent of people who cherish life and want to foster a society not overrun with sin. It wasn’t even well written. The characters were one dimensional, predictable and unlikable. So sad I wasted a credit.

I loved this book. It’s ridiculous as to realism but it was a lot of fun. Ok having sex with a girl in a shark tank might have pushed the envelope a bit, but it just added to the allure.

At the height of the air war in Europe, Captain Joe Farley and the baseball-loving, wisecracking crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Fata Morgana are in the middle of a harrowing bombing mission over eastern Germany when everything goes sideways. The bombs are still falling and flak is still exploding all around the 20-ton bomber as it is knocked like a bathtub duck into another world.

Well written but depressing
Revisado: 12-16-17
I was expecting the story of a WWII bomber engaging with mid evil times. Instead it was a dystopian future with vast technology. There was one brief reference to knowledge being lost in a catastrophe but otherwise no clear explanation why a B17 would be coveted and fought over by warring factions. Both future combatants had vastly better weapons. So it had some credibility issues. But it was a good love story.
