Outstanding
Revisado: 11-21-24
This book was recommended by radio personality Ben Shapiro, and I could not agree more that it is a must-read. What an interesting book, and the narrator added to the cerebral and thoughtful nature. I would mention that the audio on this recording is incredibly low toned, and listening to it in the vehicle it’s incredibly difficult. It’s OK with headphones or at home with no background noise, but anything else and you’re going to have to turn it up so loud that you’re going to think you were going deaf!

Historia
J.R.R. Tolkien famously described the Second Age of Middle-earth as a ‘dark age, and not very much of its history is (or need be) told’. And for many years readers would need to be content with the tantalizing glimpses of it found within the pages of The Lord of the Rings and its appendices, including the forging of the Rings of Power, the building of the Barad-dûr and the rise of Sauron.

Fascinating
Revisado: 01-26-23
If you are a fan of the Lord of the rings, and J.R.R. Tolkien in general, this is a must. Fascinating, and illuminating. I do not believe I will ever read the story, or watch the movies in the same way again I do wonder, however how J.R.R. Tolkien himself would have felt, being a, strict Catholic and a Victorian, that this book was comprised, edited and red by a homosexual and if he would’ve given his permission, assistance and blessing.

Just Ok
Revisado: 06-09-22
This is more of an extended TED talk, and not the in-depth and hard-hitting material I’m used to from Great Courses. Don’t misunderstand, there are definitely some interesting and useful tidbits to be found in this lecture, however overall it was slightly disappointing. I do want to applaud the professor for not inserting her political leanings/agenda into the course. If one reads in between the lines, you can tell which direction the professor heavily leans, however, she does a great job of not forcing it down the audiences throats.

Historia
The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

A Must Read. Period.
Revisado: 04-04-22
What is arguably one of the most thoughtful and in-depth histories of World War II also happens to be one of the newest. This book will no doubt go down in history as one of the top number of historical recounts of the war, and will likely be included in bibliographies of great military institutions for the next hundred years. An absolute must read for anyone who has interest in the second world war, military strategy, or western and world history.

Historia
Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial startups and family-owned businesses to nonprofits, civic organizations, and Fortune 50 companies all ask the same question: How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture? This audiobook answers this question.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) & Deistic Therapeutic Moralism for Managers
Revisado: 03-01-22
I was expecting yet another, “do this and you will succeed in business“ leadership book, and Brown did not disappoint. When I heard she loosely identified with American mainline Christianity, I was also not surprised by the distich
-therapeutic-moralism that has become so cliché and en vogue in the 21st-century West. What I was not expecting was to be force-fed neo post modern theories on power structures, victim statuses, and why everything IS actually all about your feelings. Brown does get a few things right, though the reader hast to wonder if not by accident; however, her layman’s analysis of perfectionism as a personality trait and the high value of self talk are among the few things she gets right. Other perspectives given by the author are in actuality correct, however, represent a grievously misguided recipe to arrive at the stated goal. My recommendation would be if you are one of the personality type/leaders that need to be re-energized occasionally by a self-help book, reach for one of the older brands that doesn’t have the modern frivolous accoutrements and worthless strap-hanger ideas.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Wow. Grew up watching Anne of Green Gables and Avenly but the book was just as fantastic. I found myself imagining the actors and actresses for that film. I hope someone can get Ms Adams to read Anne of Avenly next.

Historia
From the French Revolution of the 18th century to the Mexican, Russian, German, Chinese, anticolonial, and Iranian revolutions of the 20th, Chirot finds that moderate solutions to serious social, economic, and political problems were overwhelmed by radical ideologies that promised simpler, drastic remedies. But not all revolutions had this outcome. The American Revolution didn't, although its failure to resolve the problem of slavery eventually led to the Civil War, and the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe was relatively peaceful, except in Yugoslavia.

Interesting Historical Perspective
Revisado: 12-27-20
Interesting read, but the author definitely has a ax to grind. The author uses classical definitions of liberalism and conservatism; do not just assume you know what he means when he states these divisions. In addition, the author does not seem to except a worldview in which morality guided by religion has the ability to better modern societies. Finally, based on a few lines from the book, I believe the author wrongly places US President Donald Trump in the same vein as Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of Germany. Anyone who knows anything at all about history, and it’s not rushing to make a political point, knows that this comparison is absolutely historically ludicrous.
