Historia
For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

Amazing Heartfelt Story of a Hollywood Celebrity
Revisado: 10-02-19
I have just finished the second listen of this audio book. Never would I have guessed that Demi's upbringing was as sordid and confusing as a real Hollywood movie. I have ALWAYS loved her as an actress since the 80's and she was always someone I admired based on her wide array of movie roles. GI Jane made me proud to be a woman - despite the fact that the Navy Seals still does not allow women. I also respected her as a mother in Hollywood despite not knowing the hardships she experienced as a young child with her own parents. Obviously we never really know what is going on behind closed doors, but the one thing that you could see was her love for her children.
Her story is amazingly interesting and I appreciate her story even more knowing the challenges she experienced growing up in her family. I mostly enjoyed the fact that the book is narrated by Demi herself because the words are her story and her voice conveyed the pain and sadness and happiness. Her narration is a huge selling point! I HIGHLY recommend this audible book.

Historia
In June 2014, 19-year-old Erin Corwin was living a quiet life in Twentynine Palms, California, expecting her first child with her husband, US Marine Corporal Jon Corwin - until the day she drove off into the desert and never returned. As temperatures climbed into the hundreds, friends and family teamed up with local law enforcement in a grueling search of Joshua Tree National Park. Nearly two months after her disappearance, Corwin's body was found at the bottom of an abandoned mine shaft, a homemade garrote wrapped around her throat.

A true story that kept me in suspense!
Revisado: 05-09-19
This book came to me as a suggestion based on similar books I have purchased. Coming from a military family and whose husband was stationed at 29 Palms in the early 90's, hearing the familiarity of the locations and goings on in military life for these young couples is what hooked me. I shudder as I know the lure of what draws you to these young marines - the excitement of being married to a marine - a young, tough military trained man ready to fight the world while you hold down the home front. Yet, it's so easy to forgot that they are just young people, barely out of high school, and making adult decisions all in the face of war and long deployments. This poor girl got caught up in the all too common relationship drama that occurs on most military bases regardless of age. She was so trusting and young minded herself - nothing prepared her for what she experienced and it is so sad that she became the victim of a man who had his own psychological issues by his own admissions. As another reviewer stated, this should never have happened. I hope John and the rest of Erin's family find peace.
I highly recommend this book!

Life with My Idiot Family: A True Story of Survival, Courage and Justice over Childhood Sexual Abuse

Historia
Seven-year-old little girls love their daddy. Kathy was no exception, so when her daddy started paying “special” attention to her, she felt “special” in turn. Her daddy loved her.
Few betrayals run as deep as the betrayal of being sexually abused throughout your childhood by the man you should have been able to trust with your life. For Kathy, the betrayal ran deeper because when she finally found the courage to start speaking out about what her abuser did to her, her family responded by labeling her a liar and a troublemaker. Kathy didn’t stop speaking out, though.

Sad story but triumphant ending
Revisado: 05-08-19
I was so sad listening to this book, but then I found myself listening to Kathy's story a second time to get the full understanding of the trauma she endured (I often listen passively while I'm working). I was initially shocked at the sadness of the story and didn't realize until further researching that the narrator of the book was also the same person this story was about. Although I found the story to be incredibly sad, I also realized that Kathy came out on top - with such a positive outlook on what had happened to her.
Thank you for sharing your story Kathy.

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Wow! An audible must buy!
Revisado: 01-15-19
Where can I start? There are no words other than "wow"! David Goggins' tragic yet compelling life story is amazing, sad, awe inspiring and motivational. This is no rags to riches type story - his humbleness, dedication to his country, his mother and self really makes a reader/listener deep dive into themselves to find their own personal motivation and understand that completing one goal doesn't mean that it's time to rest - set another goal - one that seems unreachable and just go for it! His pride and dedication to serving his country makes me proud to be part of a military family.
Although his story was so incredibly sad, not once did I ever get the impression he was looking for sympathy. It's amazing how he consistently got back up on his feet after being knocked down time and time again because he wouldn't accept failure. The fact that he is a man of color made his story more compelling and important to me being an Asian American woman.
No spoiler alert, but his profound last words at the end of the book brought me to tears and more importantly articulated my own feelings to "never have regrets". I am on my third go around on the audible because there are so many tidbits of his story that I want to absorb and take back into my own life. Thank you David Goggins for sharing your story and thank you to audible for making it available for public consumption! Buy this book!

Amazing!
Revisado: 10-04-18
A friend of mine was raving about a CNN news correspondent who had a YouTube channel with inspiring videos named Mel Robbins. He explained to me this "5 second rule" that Mel Robbins had discovered after a series of life changing events. I was a little skeptical but I do enjoy inspirational self-help books so I gave it a try. I LOVED THE CONTENT! Her story was not only inspirational but her personal stories of readers who had applied the 5 second rule to their lives made me quite emotional and I did not expect to become emotional based on the content of this book. I loved that Mel personally recorded the audio version of her book - it made for a more personal story for me.
Kinda crazy - I did apply the 5 second rule by the time I finished the second chapter of her book because as she said "just do it - don't think". Amazing advice and amazing story. I would highly suggest her audible book. I'm on to her next book already!
