Historia
Imagine a job where you work four days a week and earn as much as the CEO. You also get full benefits, a gym membership, free lunch, and unlimited time off, no questions asked. Hard-won profits don’t just end up in the CEO’s pocket—they’re distributed equally among all employees. The company even buys you your very own car. It sounds too good to be true, but this is the reality at Tunnel Vision, the clothing company that Madeline Pendleton built from the ground up.

Generous and eye opening
Revisado: 04-05-24
I am a fan of Madeline's from Tiktok and I honestly got this book to support her. A lot of things she talks about is US centric and I am a bit older then her so I don't find it as useful as I would if I had an opportunity to read this book when I was younger.
AT THE SAME TIME, this is a wonderful story of someone's money history and through it I learned a lot about myself as well. Madeline writes in an honest, vulnerable way and throughout the book I had the feeling of her generously sharing her knowledge and experience with us.
I stan her success and I hope there will be more and more people living and working in a way that she does.

Historia
The story of Maya Angelou’s extraordinary life has been chronicled in her multiple best-selling autobiographies. But now, at last, the legendary author shares the deepest personal story of her life: her relationship with her mother. For the first time, Angelou reveals the triumphs and struggles of being the daughter of Vivian Baxter, an indomitable spirit whose petite size belied her larger-than-life presence - a presence absent during much of Angelou’s early life.

some ok points, but no real substance
Revisado: 02-23-23
It's not awful but I couldn't finish it.
I couldn't get past if you are procrastinating just don't. Just do it.
Oh wow! How come nobody thought of this before?
It's not all bad, some interesting and smart ideas. I like that she advocates against thinking of yourself as a brand, which seems to be the general consensus these days. It makes sense.
But all in all, no real depth in it for me

Historia
For thousands of years, scientists, philosophers, and self-help gurus have wrestled with one of the basic conundrums of human life: Why do we do the things we do? Or, rather, why do we so often not do the things we want to do? In You're a Miracle (and a Pain in the Ass), McHargue addresses these issues. We like to think we’re in control of our thoughts and decisions, he writes, but science has shown that a host of competing impulses, emotions, and environmental factors are at play in every action we undertake.

Historia
If money is emotional, then why do we persist in trying to manage our personal finances logically? We already know what it takes to become financially healthy: spend less than we make, pay down our debt, and save more money. Money management books, tools, and techniques abound, yet most of us don't utilize them. I'd like to propose a better alternative. My approach to personal finance is called "mindful money management." It is unique in that it harnesses the power of your emotions.

Like listening to commercials
Revisado: 04-05-22
Narration is so off putting that I couldn’t finish the book. She is a professional but the style of narration is like a commercial or a good morning America segment with advice. It makes it sound very shallow. Lots of advice and problems is US specific and doesn’t apply to rest of the world

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Most of what the author is saying won’t be news to anyone above the age of 35 but it is connected and written in such an insightful, wise and gentle way that you actually manage to hear it. And as most things that are true to the core it is at the same time liberating and heartbreaking.

Historia
I've reinvented my career, my interests, my life, many times over the past 20 years. This is the audiobook I wish I had at the beginning of that long and often volatile journey. And now the entire world: Technology, governments, the shifting landscapes of opportunity and success, are all turning upside down, forcing us to reinvent as individuals and as a culture. Along my own journey I have read and encountered dozens of other successful leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and mentors who I have learned the art of reinvention from.

I would say go with a print version or a kindle one for this one.
Both the format and the narration is just... grating on your ears. The book is good just not good to listen to.

As a therapist, Joyce Marter noticed an extraordinary trend: as her clients improved their mental health, they leveled up in other areas of their lives. This epiphany led her to develop an insightful and ingenious process for releasing limiting habits and beliefs so you can begin your journey to freedom and prosperity. Here, Joyce shares the culmination of her life’s work as the go-to expert on the “Psychology of Success”—a proven method to help you improve your financial well-being.

I heard the interview with the author on Sounds True podcast and I immediately bought the book. I really wanted to like it. I believe the author has great intentions and I absolutely agree with the connection of our emotional and mental health and our finances. I just don’t feel that this book does a good job of helping you get to the root of your issues. Because it’s trying to cover both the financial side and psychological it ends up doing a very surface job at both. It should maybe pick one thing and go deeper on it.
Also, the narration is very stiff and slow which adds to the feeling of someone who is still not an expert at what they are doing. I am sure she will be in the future, and I will give other books a chance once she writes them but in the meantime this one is just a starter book.
Helpful if you are very very very new to both therapy and money.

I think this is super important to read for anyone doing anything. But like all true things in life, it’s simple but it’s not easy. This takes a certain kind of attitude and openness but a right one. Treating each other as humans, as complicated individuals that we all are.

I really love his work, In and of itself is life changing.
The book is good but I think I maybe expected more... I feel like there is more to it too, that it was shaved off to leave material for a new book maybe or something.
Still a worthy read, just not something I have a need to read again.
