Matt Goldman tells a good story as usual, but he deserves a better narrator than this.

More of a war story than an art heist story

This is a war/coming of age tale. A graphic, violent war story is told with an elegiac tone, alongside a story of an ill-fated monestary, art stolen by the nazis, and the human victims of these atrocities. All told through the eyes of a 14 year old child.

What a gripping tale!Shakespearean not just in the apt title, but also in scope. Perfectly narrated by Saskia Maarleveld.

I came here to say that if you're enjoying this series (as I am), don't be scared away by the poor reviews that the narrator is receiving. The previous narrator did an excellent job, true. But Pinchot does get the story across, and the story is good. The narration is uneven - some passages are handled quite well, while others are just weird, with strange pauses and uplilts at the end of sentences. Room for improvement.
Loved the descriptions of LA and contrasts with MN!

Really enjoyed this - great narration, and a fun twisty mystery. Excellent first novel by Armitage - I look forward to more.

Narrator miscast

Mildly entertaining time travel tale, but the narrator is so miscast that it distracts from the story.
Story: ENGLISH
Reader: AMERICAN
Problem: Because the story is written in the first person, and that character is British... there's a constant disconnect. As other reviewers have pointed out, he does some British accents for some of the characters, but not for the main character, who is himself, and .... it's just really weird.

Love and jury duty

Well-educated, mature New Yorkers fall in love at jury duty. A pleasant 2 and a half hour tale.
No problem listening to wonderful Jeff Daniels' rich, relaxed voice, but I really wish he - or the director - had taken the decision to vary the two main characters' voices.
This story is told via an extended conversation over the course of five days. There is very little "he said" and "she said" and unfortunately the narrator does not distinguish the two voices or even pause when switching between them. They flow into one another, resulting in confusion as to who is speaking when.

Beautiful descriptive writing - you can see hear and smell Louisiana when you read JL Burke's stories about Dave Robicheaux.
Will Patton is simply a GREAT reader, and it's always a treat to listen to him.

A first book by a wonderful new writer. Hope there will be many more!
Tried this one on a whim because of reading so many happy reviews. A good story, well-told. With excellent narration.

Brian Friel

I love Brian Friel, and looked forward to listening to this beautiful piece of writing. The three narrators were not equally adept, sadly. Ciaran Hinds did a fine job, and Toby Jones was sublime as always. But the overall experience was nearly ruined by the second narrator - overwrought, heaving and panting and failing to make sense of the story or the character - just awful.
