Historia
Like a songbird in a cage, Anya has spent her entire life as the General's perfect daughter. He snaps his fingers; she jumps. He tells her to smile; she beams like she is made of the sun itself. But underneath all those games and glitter, she's working to destroy her father and save the city she loves. When an undine sneaks his way into her city, intent on kidnapping her, she lets him take her.

Song of the abyss
Revisado: 02-19-25
This wasn’t as good as whispers of the deep but I still enjoyed it. Daios was an antagonist in the first book and in this one we get to see more into why he is the way he is and the struggles he deals with not just mentally but also physically after losing his arm. Anya was an interesting character. I like how she didn’t let her hearing loss hold her back and how she adapted to it. In this book Anya is fighting to take her father the general of Alpha down from within the system while Daios and his people have the same goal. Their relationship was a bit too insta love for me but I still liked seeing it develop. I also really liked the introduction of the depth striders and can’t wait to read more about them.

I wanted a distraction and I got it.
Revisado: 02-08-25
The world building in this book was my favorite part. There was only a taste of it so I hope there’s more revealed in the other books. The duskwalkers and how they came to be was different. And the concept of demons being brought over from another world by a demon elf hybrid king to essentially build an army was very interesting. You don’t learn about any of this until later in the book but to lead up to those revelations was good too. This had a beauty and the beast vibe but imagine the beast didn’t change into a human at the end. I guess maybe he could if he keeps consuming humanity? I’m not sure. But either way Orpheus was an interesting character and for a monster he’s a complete naive cinnamon roll. He was lonely so he would request a human sacrifice from a village every decade in exchange for a protective spell against the demons that hunt the humans. Reia was the most recent sacrifice. She didn’t want to go with him but he eventually won her over. It kinda had a Stockholm syndrome vibe for a while there though 🤣 anyway I’m not sure what I was expecting but it turned out much sweeter and domestic than I thought. And the unnamed mavka was hilarious.

Byte was my favorite
Revisado: 02-03-25
Whispers of the deep is about a world where humans are forced to live in underwater cities due to climate change making land unlivable. Mira is an engineer in the underwater city of Beta and Arges is a leader of a group of merpeople called undine. They meet when he and his pod attack Beta and she helps him escape when he is trapped. He is ordered to kidnap and befriend her to use her to get an upper hand over Beta.
I liked this book more than I thought I would. The world was interesting and Mira’s companion Byte was hilarious for a robot. For being such a dangerous creature Arges was really just a giant golden retriever. Their relationship developed at a believable pace and the language barrier made it even more interesting. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Historia
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Happy place?
Revisado: 01-22-25
If you’re looking for a lighthearted happy story, this isn’t it. Happy place deals with grief, loss, and unhappiness and how those impact lives and love. It was kinda depressing but so relatable. Most of Emily Henry’s books resonate with me. In this particular story Harriet struggles with trying to make her family proud and to be good and interesting enough to keep her friends around. Even with Wyn she’s constantly waiting for him to figure out she’s not special enough. I think a lot of us struggle with these types of feelings and I personally wish I could be more like Cleo. Overall I ended up really liking this book and it made me reconsider some of my own choices in life.

Historia
Of all the things that could have landed in her yard, it had to be him. For most people, finding a half-naked superbeing in their yard might be a dream come true. Unfortunately for Gracie Castro, it’s the exact opposite. Especially when he’s grouchy, rude, and shows no signs of leaving anytime soon. But when a hero of mankind needs you, you do what you have to. Even if it compromises everything you know. And totally changes your life.

Great performance
Revisado: 01-17-25
Mariana zapata is an auto buy author for me so I bought this book on release day without even reading the description. Once I read the description, it took me until now to read the book because the superhero aspect didn’t appeal to me and I was worried I would be disappointed. I shouldn’t have worried though because this book had all of the things that I love about Mariana’s other books. A grumpy MMC, a feisty funny FMC, and the slowest of burns. While it was pretty predictable, I loved it. It’s not my favorite of her books but I thoroughly enjoyed it and the audio version with the dual narration was excellent.

Historia
Aurora De La Torre, or Ora to her friends, knows moving back to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a place that was once home and is now full of bittersweet memories of her late mother, isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But after breaking up with her longtime famous musician boyfriend, hiding out in a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart. And checking out her landlord who lives across the driveway just might cure it, too. Only Tobias Rhodes didn’t rent out the apartment to her, rather it was his teenage son, Amos.

Another Mariana zapata hit
Revisado: 01-17-25
This is my second time reading this book (this time on audio) and I loved it just as much as the first time. The dual narration was excellent. I have yet to read a Mariana zapata book that I didn’t like and all Rhodes lead here lived up to the hype for me. It has her typical slow burn romance and super grumpy MMC. Aurora was funny and I loved her interactions with Amos and Jackie. If you like super slow burn books that pack an emotional punch then this is for you.

Some things are easily forgiven. Other things...not so much. Lenny DeMaio made herself a promise: She was done. Done thinking about him. Done worrying about him. Done reaching out to a man who clearly didn’t want to be found. Too bad no one gave Jonah Collins the memo.

Love the dual narration
Revisado: 01-17-25
I updated my rating to 5/5 stars after rereading this book. The audio version was great and I love the dual narration. The creature of ancient evil aka grandpa Gus was still my favorite character this time around. His relationship with Lenny was my favorite thing about this book. Jonah was sweet and even if I still think his reason for disappearing was stupid, I liked him. I also liked that Lenny didn’t just instantly forgive him and instead made him work for it without being mean about it. She could have easily been nasty about the whole situation but she gave him the chance to prove himself.

It all started with an unexpected phone call. Two years after my fiancé passed away in an accident, his father died suddenly, leaving Brad’s adult special-needs brother with no one to care for him. The next thing I knew, I was on a cross-country drive to New Hampshire where I’d be moving in to look after Scottie until I could get him into a group home. The last thing I ever expected? I wouldn’t be taking care of him alone.

Picked up for the cover but stayed for the story
Revisado: 01-17-25
The cover is what made me want to read this book 🤣 I love a good enemies to lovers story but I wouldn’t call this enemies to lovers. More like slightly dislike to lovers. Overall this was a good read. I wasn’t sure I’d like it at first but about half way in it hooked me. I liked that they resisted getting together for so long even though they both wanted too. It would have been boring if they fell into bed together at their first opportunity and the build up was one of things that convinced me to keep reading.

Once I saw Marnie Long, a sassy, sultry, charismatic older woman in a bar, I couldn’t peel my eyes off her. I wanted her. At least, for one night. I’m way too busy with my career these days for anything more. As it turned out, after recently getting burned, Marnie was on the same page as me—all she wanted was one night of fun. I was happy to be of service. What I didn’t expect during our night together, however, was how deeply we connected. Also, how much I was dying to see her again the next morning.

The performance saved this book for me
Revisado: 01-17-25
I’m glad I listed to this book or I probably would have DNF it. While the story was meh to me the performance of the narrators was phenomenal. There was enough humor to keep me listening and Jacob Morgan’s performance of some scenes made me laugh out loud. Overall I would not read this again though. I may have gone into it with high expectations due to all the positive reviews but it was a miss for me. I personally don’t care for insta love stories and both of these characters that claimed to want nothing more than a hook up were pretty much smitten after one night.
