Historia
The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities. The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom. They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did. Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.

Historia
In this illuminating work, immigrant rights activist Aviva Chomsky shows how “illegality” and “undocumentedness” are concepts that were created to exclude and exploit. With a focus on US policy, she probes how people, especially Mexican and Central Americans, have been assigned this status—and to what ends.

Readable, well-researched, and thorough
Revisado: 04-05-18
Chomsky’s analysis of America’s racialized history of immigration is first rate. With new immigration legislation result legislation in 1965 came the notion of humans being “ illegal” based on their place of birth. All of this preserved the country’s system of cheap labor — a system that continues to buttress many American industries. Stricter enforcement practices, and an ever-militarized border, has only ever led toward an increase Mexican immigrants. They recognized the cost of leaving and abandoned migratory practices, opting instead to remain in the US.
I enjoyed the way Chomsky interwove the stories of those most impacted by the creation of “illegality.” It is clear what is at stake and it is inexcusable to turn ourselves away from the injustice. Immigration policies are not and have never been reflections of a natural order.

A misleading sample narration
Revisado: 04-12-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Any fan of fantasy will love this book. I was told the series was one of the best in the genre, but I was hesitant to start a saga that consisted of over a dozen books. The story, the world-building, and the characters are beyond that of most of the many fantasy books I have read. If you would like to continue to read fantasy novels, ignore the length of the series and instead focus on the quality of the work. Invest the time you might spend on five trilogies and read the work that inspired so many of the fantasy stories that have been written since The Eye of the World. Even if you were to stop after this book (book one of The Wheel of Time), you would likely find the story enjoyable and feel you had a near complete experience. The story is so rich and full, rewarding the reader throughout the novel.
Read a few chapters, you'll be drawn in. It begins with a Tolkien inspired journey, and takes on a voice of its own shortly after.
The chapter titled "Shadows Waiting," pushes an already exciting plot into a new world of stories, culture, and unbelievably real characters. 5/5

What does Kate Reading and Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I'd like to address the audible sample narration for those who are considering starting the series. Before I download audiobooks, I always listen to the sample narration after a bad experience with The Black Prism (a fantastic book with a terrible narrator). When I first listened to the sample for The Eye of the World, I thought the sound was distorted and the narrator was difficult to understand. This was far from the truth, The narration is awesome and the sound is perfect. Both narrators really embody the characters and their experiences. Don't let the sample mislead you.
AUDIBLE: Please offer a sample of the actual book, not the loud, distorted, and purposely vague prologue.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Stands aside Tolkien as the root of all post-1990 high fantasy series.
Any additional comments?
Change the sample narration asap. I avoided purchasing an awesome book with fantastic narration for so long because of it.

Revisado: 01-15-16
So caught up in the narrator's terrible voice that I cannot comprehend the story half of the time. I would recommend reading this novel in book form. Huge disappointment though, as I was looking forward to this book and I rarely have the time to sit down and read. I'm sure if I will continue as the story's writing, as well as overall plot, is completely overshadowed by the California surfer hired to read this book after smoking too much marijuana.
