Weird tone and organization
Revisado: 04-13-18
First off let me start by saying that I did get a few tips out of this book that were applicable to my depression. With that out of the way, this book had a lot of repetition, was organized in a confusing manner and didn't always produce the best advice. A lot of things said earlier in the book were then contradiced later. The tone was pretty bad in my honest opinion. It oscillated between overly complicated medical jargon to overly simple methods of actually helping your depression. Still worth a read, but doesn't get my recommendation if you don't already own it.

And so is this book. Kudos John Oliver, for another great piece of work. I can't wait to buy another copy of this book to give to my nephew. If you want to teach your kids tolerance, this is the book for you. 10/10 do recommend

Historia
Each night, when the hours of painting and drawing were over, Vincent van Gogh put pen to paper and poured out his heart through letters to his beloved brother Theo, his confidant and companion. No thought was too small, no element of his craft too insignificant, no happening too trivial. It was all scrupulously recorded and shared. In these letters, Van Gogh reveals himself as artist and man. Even more than if he had purposely intended to tell his life story, Van Gogh’s letters lay bare his deepest feelings, as well as his everyday concerns and his views of the world of art.

The best book I've ever read
Revisado: 04-05-18
Who would have known that Vincent van Gogh could write as beautifully as he painted? this book is uplifting, inspiring and heart wrenching. The letters he writes to his brother are exceptionally descriptive and not only give insight into the world of fine arts that is enough to inspire even the least artistic person to at least view art through a different lens, but they also give so much insight into mental illness and the difference between pain and suffering. Hands down, one of the most interesting and entertaining books I've ever read. I'll be buying a hard copy just so I can see all the sketches that are mentioned.

Historia
In 2009, Susannah Cahalan woke up in a strange hospital room strapped to a bed, under guard, and unable to move or speak. Her medical records - from a month-long hospital stay of which she had no memory - reported psychosis, violence, and dangerous instability. Yet, only weeks earlier she had been a healthy, ambitious twenty-four-year-old, six months into her first serious relationship and a sparkling career as a cub reporter

This is the quickest I've ever read an Audible. The tone was so honest. It is all about the brutal experience that one normal young woman had to endure to rediscover herself in a literal way.

Such a humanizing book
Revisado: 02-13-18
This book is all about realizing that both the patient, and the doctor, even the most skilled doctors, are human. A whole word can change with the slip of a knife, for good or for bad. This book really puts into perspective the lives of surgeons in such a wonderful way-- you will laugh, cringe and cry throughout this book. This was probably the funnest book I have read this year so far.

Historia
Oliver Sacks' The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat tells the stories of individuals afflicted with fantastic perceptual and intellectual aberrations: patients who have lost their memories and with them the greater part of their pasts; who are no longer able to recognize people and common objects; who are stricken with violent tics and grimaces or who shout involuntary obscenities; whose limbs have become alien; who have been dismissed as retarded yet are gifted with uncanny artistic or mathematical talents.

A little outdated, but still amazing!
Revisado: 02-06-18
First off, I highly recommend this as a pre-read to The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons. That book kinda feels like the newer version of this book, adding a little more detail to the scientific side of things. I Iove the pacing on this book- each chapter has a conscious subject and story. And you can tell the author had a real passion for his clients and their stories. if more people read books like this, I truly believe we would all be more understanding and supportive of one another, regardless of our mental gifts or detriments.

Historia
Early studies of the human brain used a simple method: Wait for misfortune to strike - strokes, seizures, infectious diseases, horrendous accidents - and see how victims coped. In many cases their survival was miraculous, if puzzling. Observers were amazed by the transformations that took place when different parts of the brain were destroyed, altering victims' personalities. With the lucid, masterful explanations and razor-sharp wit his fans have come to expect, Kean explores the brain's secret passageways.

When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.
