Historia
As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

Worth the wait
Revisado: 03-22-25
We finally get Haymitch’s story and wow. It is even more tragic and heartbreaking than I ever imagined. This book wrecked me. Even darker and more grim than the Hunger Games books, reflecting how we’ve grown up with the series. And the narrator nailed the impression of a younger Haymitch. Just fantastic overall

Historia
July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly. On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide. Its curve not of nature, but design. Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Much better than the reviews lead you to believe
Revisado: 01-17-24
Don’t expect this to be something it’s not.
Paolini himself said this is a prequel short story, so you should adjust your expectations accordingly.
Perhaps this is the reason for all these lackluster reviews, but the story itself is definitely worth reading if you’re a fan of this world. It’s a much darker and more intimate story than we’re used to getting with Paolini books, which I loved to see. The narrative doesn’t really move the needle of the overall fractal verse story, but that’s not the intent. At the end of the day it’s really the story of a man dealing with immense grief set in this sci-fi world,
The audio for this was top notch imo. Jennifer Hale just as good as she was in To Sleep, but what really makes this story come alive in audio format was attention to detail, like the way the characters sounded when speaking over comms, and of course the ever present sound of the fractal noise. Really hope they continue to go this route with audio details in future fractal verse stories.
Overall, I think this book is worth the credit, it’s gripping, dark, and yet really moving. Would recommend.
If Christopher or anyone on his team reads this, keep up the great work. As a fan of many years, I love to see how your work has grown with your core audience from the Inheritance cycle, hope to see much more of this grittier, more mature content in the future.

Historia
When former FBI Agent Kathy Stearman read in The New York Times that 16 women were suing the FBI for discrimination at the training academy, she was surprised to see the women come forward - no one ever had before - but the truth behind their accusations resonated. After a 26-year career in the Bureau, culminating in becoming FBI Legal Attaché, the most senior FBI representative in a foreign office, she knew from personal experience that this type of behavior had been prevalent for decades.

A Personal Perspective
Revisado: 10-12-22
Absolutely loved hearing these stories from such a unique perspective. She didn’t shy away from difficult topics that need to be discussed. Some will disagree strongly with her core beliefs and ideologies, but they’re valid and valued experiences.

Booktrack edition not my favorite
Revisado: 03-01-22
The music was a bit distracting throughout, selection of music didn’t always match the tone of the scenes either. But disappointed with that as I really wanted to like it. Would recommend normal version, otherwise quite good.

He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Very slow book
Revisado: 11-03-20
Really didn’t grab my attention until nearly halfway through. Forced myself to get through it since I heard so many good things, but there’s a ton of boring build up. If you’re looking for a fast paced sci-fi thriller this isn’t it, however the audio performance was very good, in addition to the main narrator each main character gets their own voice actor for the big scenes

Paolini clearly showing his growth as a writer
Revisado: 10-08-20
I loved his inheritance cycle but this is another level to his writing. The sheer amount of research he put into building this world is so impressive, and the action packed story does it justice. Would encourage people not to be put off by the length, all the action sequences will make this story fly by especially in audiobook form

It was a completely different listening experience to just a regular audiobook, this was more like listening to a tv series. I didn’t know what to expect going on apart from what I knew of the star studded cast, but it was a whole new listening experience. More of this please
