An Intriguing Mix of Genre!

After a slow start, this book picked up pace quickly - and I was hooked! Great development of the characters, the story line, and the plot twists. Very intriguing right to the end. After following a seemingly innocent talisman all the way through the story, was amazed at the science fiction ending! It set the stage for a new adventure - I'm interested to see where it goes!

Great Story - Well Written & Well Performed!

Great story line! Liked the linking with three successive time frames, building on the history of the previous period. Also really enjoyed the religious undertones throughout the story with the touch of fantasy magic & power. I would definitely listen to the next book in this series!

Weird Start But Good Ending!

Not at all what I expected when I started, but in the end an interesting story with an unexpected twist in the end. It was a short story that made some long leaps, but it held together well. It would have been good to have read a prequel to set the stage for the lead character and the story line - but - then the ending would not have been as good. :)

Beginning of great series!

Liked the opening - jumped into the main setting, and provided background via look-backs. Also, the major conflict was suspenseful and well defined to a realistic conclusion (setting the stage for more character discoveries).
Was slow moving at times, and tended to over-emphasize the same emotional feelings of the 2 key characters for each other.
The author has created an interesting world and story line - looking forward to next book in the series!
