Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

I thought Jim did a wonderful job reading this book. Maybe he should try it again.

ridiculously disappointing
Revisado: 10-24-22
this series was never really written that well, but the first couple of books passed muster for listening during my commute. I wasn't able to get past halfway or so in this one, however. completely disappointed with it, won't be reading any more.

Odious tripe...
Revisado: 06-15-21
While the story line is good and the characters interesting, the author has somehow still managed to make reading this series, and this book in particular, almost unreadable. It is all too often incredibly pedantic and overbearing in minutiae, and liberally dosed with terribly misconstrued attempts at cleverness or meaning. So very disappointing.

Historia
Every year hundreds of warriors and swordsmen travel to the grand city of Basilopolis to audition for the emperor of Makhaira's personal company. Only the greatest are admitted into that elite corps. Most are found wanting and sent on their way, with nothing more than the tales of how they were almost good enough to serve him. Edward Aethelredson knows that he is worthy to pledge his blade for the emperor's service. His entire life has readied him for this moment, and now he must only finish his journey and claim his rightful place among the best.

Enjoyable excursion into a new world
Revisado: 07-11-19
While this genre is a bit outside my usual preference, I found this tale of adventure and intrigue enjoyable. The characters are well developed and interesting, the environment detailed and easily imagined, and the story-line is engaging and in-depth. One character has an inexplicably odd manner of speech that I found annoying, and the author seems somewhat obsessed with cats, but these don't detract much from the overall experience. The story flows well and has enough to detail to keep you interested, without getting mired in minutia. The reader has a pleasant voice and generally narrates well, without overdoing the different characters. I would happily recommend this to anyone whom enjoys a good fantasy story.

Mother and warrior. Scholar and spy. Rebel and hero. Set in a magical world of terror and wonder, this novel is a deeply felt epic of courage and war, in which the fates of these characters intertwine - and where ordinary people become heroes, and their lives become legend.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-10-17
I have been a huge fan of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series, and loved Luke Daniel's performance of them. This book was a big disappointment. The story itself might be more appealing were it not told in such a fragmented, disjointed manner, but the constant skipping around from various perspectives in separate story lines made it impossible to become immersed in, and difficult to follow at times. Pardon my saying so, but although Xe Sands' performance was grating and without appeal, whoever decided to have Luke Bryant sing those regrettable songs should be slapped. The only thing worse than the "singing" were the horrible songs themselves. Ugh!
I'm afraid I won't be listening to any more of these books. Hopefully Hearnes will release another Iron Druid book soon...

Historia
It’s 1996, and Reacher is still in the army. In the morning they give him a medal, and in the afternoon they send him back to school. That night he’s off the grid. Out of sight, out of mind. Two other men are in the classroom—an FBI agent and a CIA analyst. Each is a first-rate operator, each is fresh off a big win, and each is wondering what the hell they are doing there. Then they find out: A Jihadist sleeper cell in Hamburg, Germany, has received an unexpected visitor—a Saudi courier, seeking safe haven while waiting to rendezvous with persons unknown.

Please stop letting Dick's Hill ruin otherwise enjoyable books. I will read any further Reacher novels myself. I just can't stand Hill's overly dramatic speech. Just horrible.
