Historia
Australia, 1857. Life is brutal on the goldfields of Castlemaine. With death around every corner, people are all too willing to believe in ghosts and embrace the spiritualism movement finding its way across the seas. For Lucy Earnshaw and her husband Tom, their arrival in Australia is marred by unimaginable grief. In the wake of her loss, and amid a failing marriage, Lucy is drawn into the world of spiritualism and theater—and into the path of dashing young playwright, Will Browning. Lucy’s new obsession leads her into the dark underbelly of the goldfields.

I picked this up at freeaudiobookcodes.com. I went in blind, just thinking the description sounded interesting. I was hooked immediately and had a hard time putting the book down once I started it.

Today, Gloria has walled herself into a safe world that relies on routine and familiarity. She doesn’t leave her apartment—ever. But somehow evil has gotten in.

Skip this one
Revisado: 01-15-25
Unless you enjoy several hours of inner whiny dialogue, skip this book. It drags on, 23 chapters before any real action happens.
It's okay to read these out of order, this one is a waste of time and money.

She reluctantly agrees to a night of camping, despite her secret terror of the woods. My favorite so far
Revisado: 01-09-25
I've listened to three books by J.R. Erickson and they just keep getting better.
The narrator was really good and I want to find more books narrated by her as well as more books by this author.
The story is part of a series but aside from being set in the same area and a couple of very minor characters (restaurant owner, police detective) who get a mention, there's nothing really tying the books together so it's okay to listen to them out of order.

Okay if you like silly and bizarre
Revisado: 01-04-25
I got this book as a free promo from freeaudiobookcodes.com in exchange for a review.
It's definitely a silly book with a lot of tongue and cheek humor. Lots of references to mythological beings and it feels a bit like Alice in Wonderland from start to finish but only if Alice ate the mushrooms the caterpillar was sitting on or smoking.

Very Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-02-25
You don't need to have read or listened to the first book in this series to enjoy this one. Aside from one reoccurring character (who's barely mentioned) there's no link between the stories.
This story was suspenseful and spooky on the level of a Lifetime movie. It'll keep your interest but it won't give you nightmares or make you afraid to turn off the lights. This book did make me want to listen to other books by this author and narrator.
I received a free copy from freeaudiobookcodes.com in exchange for this honest review. I totally recommend checking out other books by this author if this type of mystery interests you.

Historia
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the mall, rushed a worker, named Steve, who was sick of you all. From Doris to Karen, and that pest, Creepy Santa, Steve wanted to clock them with a big, glass decanter. With the help of an elf, her clothes quite revealing, Steve finished his shopping with much a mixed feeling. After a beer or two, and he’d bought all his presents, Steve went to a house with a marijuana essence. Along with his buddies, their names Dave and Spike, the three amigos partied with beer and ganja alike.

Not very Christmasy
Revisado: 01-02-25
This book was a lot of fun, Christmas is only happening in the first chapter. The guys wake up after a binge party session in Jan and find the world has changed dramatically.
Just when they get out of one predicament they find themselves in another. If you enjoy stoner movies or silly stories, you will enjoy this one.

The weakest of the series
Revisado: 10-14-24
I was really looking forward to book five but it was a real slog to get through. The Daily Grind is the same ole same ole.
I was hoping they would follow the other character from the last book who went back to her dungeon with the roads, etc.
Instead of dungeon exploration we get mainly administrative tasks, several inner monologues as various characters ponder their existence.
When JD was taken to NY by the FBI to help investigate financial crimes, I was hoping we might follow the character and get a little change of scenery.
I ended up DNF'ing with only three hours left, I just couldn't push myself to care any longer. I doubt I will listen to any additional books in the series.

Historia
I'm Bree, and I see dead people. Not all dead people. Only those with unfinished business. They're everywhere—I'll be eating my breakfast, and a poisoned heiress glares over my Cheerios. I've returned to my hometown of Grimdale to cat-sit for my parents while I plan my next move. I'm looking forward to raiding their fridge, hanging out with their two kittens, and staying far, far away from anything supernatural. But I forgot that I'm never alone in Grimdale. The three ghosts I used to play with as a kid are back in my life again. Only now I'm their age, and they're infuriatingly attractive.

DNF'd early on
Revisado: 09-03-24
I love Joel Froomkin but his voice is a bit feminine and the character he was portraying in this story is a real lady's man. I had a hard time picturing it and it kept knocking me out of the story.
I loved some of the other books he's narrated but just couldn't handle the way he speaks and the type of character he was narrating and ended up DNF'ing after trying for a couple of hours.

Mostly Filler
Revisado: 08-16-24
I read a review that said "skip it". I totally agree here. I would call at least 75% of this book to just be filler. I skipped ahead for most of the "games" that took up about three hours of the book.
If you are worried you will miss something if you pass over this book and go straight to book four - They don't go to Thameland at all in this book. That happens at the start of book four. The part about the magical plants in the botanical garden were somewhat interesting and I liked that Theresa's family came to visit. But I think the book could have been a lot shorter or just been part of book four and skipped all the stuff that has no real bearing on the story.

Another great Listen
Revisado: 07-11-24
I listened to all five books, I had listened to book three about a year before picking this one up. Life got busy and I forgot about this series. It was when my son picked up book one that I remembered how much I enjoyed these books.
If you enjoyed the first three books, you will enjoy this one. Lots more Frank and House and more and more cats.
It's definitely worth the credit.
