Heir to the Jedi proved to be an enjoyable and nostalgic adventured centered around Luke Skywalker several weeks after the battle of Yavin.

While the stakes were a bit lower than those on A New Hope, the story had plenty of action and adventure. I found it interesting to witness a galactic adventure not only through the eyes of Luke but through his eyes shortly after destroying the Death Star. In this novel, we get to see a Luke that is not only humble and a bit unsure of himself, but a naive farm boy who only recently left his moisture farm on Tatooine. This leads to him being very quick to open up to others. While this behavior is reckless, I felt Hearne did a great job of portraying a more inoccent Luke that is a far cry from the Luke we know from Return of the Jedi.

While Heir to the Jedi is not as epic as many other Star Wars productions and the character development is limited, I found it to be an enjoyable Star Wars adventure centered around a legacy character.

A New Dawn was a great prequel to the Rebels series. Compared to most Star Wars novels, it took place over a very short period of time and didn't involve many large events. But I did find it a bit refreshing as the plot was focused on a small-scale issue (by galactic standards) and character development of well-known legacy characters. While I don't think A New Dawn adds a ton to the galactic timeline, it adds a lot of depth to well-known characters and would recommend to any Star Wars fan who enjoyed the Rebels series.

Over the past several months, I have been reading through many of the Star Wars cannon novels in chronological order. While I have kept to most of the books in the timeline, Tarkin was one I intended to skip. I had little desire to read a story about one of the worst people in all of Star Wars. But after reading catalyst by James Luceno and being thoroughly impressed, I decided to give this novel a go, and it impressed me.

Throughout the novel we learn about Tarkins upbringing and professional career, expanding upon our existing knowledge of the character. While at times it can be easy to forget he is the bad guy as he is also the main character, Luceno does an excellent job of portraying why and how Tarkin became such a heartless and evil military commander. We also get to better understand his relationship with Vader and the Emperor, which helps explain why he does not fear Vader and he is one of a slect few commanders that Vader respects. We also gained a better understanding of Tarkins role with the construction and implementation of the Death Star.

While witnessing and learning about Tarkins attoricites, we are introduced to one of the earliest rebel cells. Their story does a great job of portraying the very early days of the rebellion as the novel takes place roughly five years after Order 66 and shortly after the Lords of the Sith novel.

Luceno wrote an excellent Star Wars novel and portrayed Tarkin and the evil and feared Grand Moff.

I expected I would like this novel as I loved Rogue One. But I liked it far more than I anticipated.

The story follows the Ersos and their interactions with Orson Krenick throughout the construction and progress of the Death Star. Starting during the clone wars after the Republic gained plans for the battle station from the separatists. We follow the Ersos on their adventures across the galaxy, all while Krenick is working to coax Gaelyn into unknowingly work on the Death Star.

While the plot was great, it had many additional tidbits i found enjoyable. Such as getting to see a deeper dive into the nature of Kyber crystals. I also found it very refreshing to see the jedi described by regular citizens who believe in the force and that the Jedi were a force for good.

Overall, I would.highly recomendnthis novel to anyone who liked Rogue One as it only makes the story more enjoyable.

When I first picked up this novel, I expected it to be an ok Star Wars novel, an enjoyable Star Wars story that helped better explain Darth Varer and Darth Sidious.

But I must say this book surprised me. It takes place roughly five years after order 66 on Ryloth.

Throughout the novel, we see aspects of the dark lords from their own eyes as well as through the eyes of rebels. I really liked how we got to see the dark lords in a more vulnerable state far from imperial support.

On the other hand, it tells a tale of Cham Syndulla and his team of rebels attempting to hunt down and assassinate Darth Vader and Darth Sidious. Readers come to know him much better as a character and better explain his actions and attitudes later in the Star Wars timeline.

I found this book to be very enjoyable and, at times, quite dark. I enjoyed seeing the dark lords fight and work together in ways we have not yet seen in cannon. The book is well paced, well written, and adds a lot of depth to some of the most well-known characters in history.

A good addition to the clone wars

Dark Disciple was an enjoyable addition to the clone wars series. It helped flesh out two less understood characters. Asaaj Ventriss and Quinlin Voss. The story takes place towards the end of the clone wars and does a great job of depicting the state of the war along with the state of the jedi council at this time. Having been a big fan of the clone wars series i enjoyed this novel. But only because i was a big fan of the clone wars series.

By itself it would not be a bad novel but i doubt it would have interested me. Neither main character was very likeable to me and i didnt really care what happened to them. They were well devloped and i see why some people liked them but i had a hard time rooting for them.

Antiher thing i struggled to appreciate was Voss's transition between different sides of the force. While i did appreciate the novel taking a deeper look into the darkside, soke of the transitions, specifically at the end just kind of happened without much develolment.

Overall i did enjoy this novel but i think it would have flowed better with the timeline of the clone wars had it been produced as several episodes. One other thing that bugged me was that while this book fit just fine into cannon, a later tv series contradicts some of the events of this book. While i dont think that detracts from the merits of this novel it does detract from disneys merrits to me.

Dooku Jedi Lost was an enjoyable story that greatly enhanced the backstory of Count Dooku and Asaaj Ventris. It helped explain why and how Dooku left the order and why SifoDias was close with him and why he ordered the clone army. I also liked how it solidified much of Ventris's background.

While it certainly wasnt my favorite Star Wars story, i did enjoy it and thought it was a positive contribution to the star wars universe.

An truly great ghost story

Thin Air was a very well written ghost story. Like with Dark Matter, Paver did an excellent job of writing an origional ghost story that was spooky, engaging, and though provoking while avoiding cheap tropes. She also did a great job of steering clear of cheesy storytelling that is so common in Horror fiction in an attempt to make their story more frightening. While scary things do occur in Thin Air, Paver did a great job of using the atmosphere to build an evergrowing sense of dread and despair.

Like many of my favorite stories it is written in such a way that it sounds like a true story. You can even follow along on the map as it all takes place in real places. While not as scary as Dark Matter, this was truly a great ghost story.

What a polar horror novel should be

Dark Matter is probably one of the best horror novels I have read. With all but one other horror novel, I have had some sort of gripe to put in the review. But with this one, I dont really have anything bad to say. There were none of the typical turn offs for me, excessive gore, assualt in various forms, manipulation of children, perversion, etc... none of those things were here, nor did the author ever rely on cheesy tropes in a desperate attempt to increase suspense. Dark matter was simply a very well written ghost story.

It takes place in the Arctic and has the perfect amount of arctic dread to heighten suspense. The main character undergoes a lot of growth and becomes more and more likable as the story continues. The story was scary, and Paver wrote the best polar horror novel I have ever read.

A great techno thriller

The Great Zoo of China was an enjoyable and entertaining read. The book focuses on a new zoo in china, which is basically Jurassic Park with dragons instead of dinosaurs. There was one point early in the novel where a main character noted how similar the park and its concepts were to Jurassic Park. Despite the many parallels, I still found the story to be relatively original, and it was a great techno thriller.

Reilly's story was very engaging and had just enough science to keep one thinking. It even gave a semi-plausible explanation to the dragon legends of old.

I wanted to give this book 5 stars, but there were a couple of things that bothered me with the story. The biggest is that the main character had a ridiculous amount of plot armor. Now I understand that all action stories will come with some plot armor. But the amount this book had was absolutely insane with the main characters surviving dozens of near death experiences simply because someone else was in the way to get eaten. The other issue I had with it was that many of the main characters' heroic acts were a bit cheesy and very impracticle.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes Jurrassic Park or Dragons.
