Historia
The entire MacLeod clan is haunted by secrets, and young Bud MacLeod doesn't realize he carries the biggest secret of all. Growing up poor in Depression-era South Georgia is hard enough, but Bud is also cursed with a stutter and a birthmark that disfigures his face. His hateful father and amoral mother make life worse still, despite his brother's efforts to shield him. To survive, Bud must discover his strengths and confront the sins of his parents. First, though, he'll need to grasp his own truth: that he can't embrace his future until he comes to terms with his past.

I had been reading this book. I wanted to listen to it while going out of town. I bought the audio book version and citizen's listen to it. Listened to something else and read the rest of the book when I got back. Don't bother with the audio version.

Historia
Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries? The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

Where does The Alchemyst rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Among my to picks
What other book might you compare The Alchemyst to and why?
The immortal. Because of the introduction of strange creatures from legend.
Have you listened to any of Denis O'Hare’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not other than this series. The narrator can make a mediocre book seem great and a great book seem mediocre. I have quit listening to a book because that I like the story line, but the narrator was so bad.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Don't know
Any additional comments?
I read the entire series of books. Not all the books in the series were five star, but I got attached to the characters, and the narrator really brought them to life. I found that I missed the characters and had to purchase the next book. I have read books in a series before and after a the first few, I tend to lose interest, as sequels are not often that good. Between the authors' well researched story line, vivid writing (if sometimes too detailed and long winded for some minor parts, but still well written), and the narrators pace, and voices and inflections, it is an addictive series, well researched in fable and lore and legend, with interesting characters. You need to have an imagination and just let yourself get taken away by the story. Some reviews thought that it was too childish (NOT) and had glaring inconsistency's, but I did not find it so. The one example of the tree, the reviewer thought that the trees were the same, the tree in the first and last book, but the author explains that the trees were related, but not the same tree. If something doesn't add up, then re-read that part. I did a couple of times and found that it did make sense.

Historia
Surviving sixty thousand years takes cunning and more than a little luck. But in the twenty-first century, Adam confronts new dangers-someone has found out what he is, a demon is after him, and he has run out of places to hide. Worst of all, he has had entirely too much to drink. An artful blending of a first-person confessional, sci-fi, adventure, fantasy, and humor, Immortal introduces a world with vampires, demons and other “magical” creatures, yet a world without actual magic.

Revisado: 09-29-13
What made the experience of listening to Immortal the most enjoyable?
the narrator. He is one of the best that I have listened to. The narration makes or breaks an audible book. His charter voices, tone, and tempo keep the story going.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The immortal
Which character – as performed by Jeff Steitzer – was your favorite?
All
Any additional comments?
The story was funny, action, interesting, full of strange characters

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

overall, I would recommend this book. I Drive from Reno to SF once a month and listen to a book while I drive. Very well read, which is SO important, interesting story, a little far fetched, but entertaining.

Would you listen to Ghoul again? Why?
Yes. In time. Why? Because it ws entertaining.
What other book might you compare Ghoul to and why?
Dan Simmons wrote great book that would compare to this. I forgot the name, but I think it had Summer in the title. It was about a group of kids, friends, an old school. That probably isn't real helpful, but maybe someone can help me out here and come up with the name.
Any additional comments?
The story was good, well written and the reader was very good. I have listened to books before where The reader ruins the book.
