Best Beth Moran Yet!
Revisado: 11-27-24
I love all of Beth's stories, but this one is by far my favorite. The love story blooms earlier and the end is so satisfying. Rosalind Steele is such an amazing narrator!

Author was a bad narrator
Revisado: 08-12-24
You have to be able to do a good British accent if you’re gonna read your own book with a British main character. Along with the monotone delivery, it was distracting. I found the relationship between the main characters unbelievable, but I never buy into the instant chemistry without character development trope. Didn’t finish it cause life is too short.

One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights. A wonderful story with amazing voice acting. The voice actors really brought this story to life. I wish all romance novels could be well performed. Such a delight.

Historia
When Iris decides to move to New York to restart her life, she realizes she underestimated how big the Big Apple really is—all the nostalgic movies set in New York she’d watched with her mom while eating their special secret-recipe gelato didn’t quite do it justice. But Bobby, Iris’s best friend, isn’t about to let her hide away. He drags her to a famous autumn street fair in Little Italy, and as they walk through the food stalls, a little family-run gelateria catches her eye—could it be the same shop that’s in an old photo of her mother’s?

Josie Silver Fan, 50% of the time
Revisado: 11-24-23
I adored One Day in December and One Night on the Island (I've listened to them both at least 3 times each). The Two Lives of Lydia Bird was so laborious. Sitting with the main character's grief felt like wading through mud. This book fell somewhere in between.
I really love the narrator, Emma Appleton, but her New York Italian accent was pretty terrible. She spoke so slowly in the accent it made me feel as if the characters, especially Gio, were high. For me, the accent affected the chemistry of all the relationships in the book.
Than being said, I will read (listen to) any this Josie Silver puts out because I have loved the way she writes many of her characters. And kudos to Josie for getting a little more "open door" in this one. Loved that!

Loved it! Favorite Sally Rooney so far
Revisado: 05-08-23
First, Aoife McMahon is an incredible narrator. She has an expressive voice that so easily captures the emotional nuances of Rooney's writing style.
Second, I just love Sally Rooney's minimalist writing style. Her short descriptive sentences make it so easy to build the scene in my imagination and I feel like I am right in the room observing the characters with her.
She makes me feel like my heart is swelling and getting crushed at the same time. I was very worried about the characters in this one. The weight of life/time felt heavier and I think it's because the main characters are older than her previous two books. I love the way it ended.

Historia
They say love and construction don't mix. By that logic, hate and construction may as well be condemned. LaRynn Lavigne and Deacon Leeds had one short and contentious summer fling when they were teens. Certainly nothing to build a foundation on. But a decade later, when their grandmothers have left them with shared ownership of their dilapidated Santa Cruz building, they're thrust back together and have to figure out how to brace up the pieces.

Bad Narration Ruins A Great Story
Revisado: 04-07-23
This was one of my favorite reads of 2022. I LOVE Tarah DeWitt. Despite my reservations after listening to the sample, I couldn’t resist the desire to experience this wonderful, charming, steamy story. The download was a mistake. The narrators are terrible. The male narrator’s New England accent sounded like a speech impediment. The female narrator sounds like an AI voice generator. The narration felt robotic and detached, which prevented me from fully engaging with the characters I loved on the page. It kinda breaks my heart.
So….please READ the book, but skip the listen.

Misogynistic
Revisado: 03-25-23
If you like a really crude, immature, and misogynistic main male character who is "a man and doesn't do tears", this one is for you. This had a solid 5 stars, so I was intrigued. Obviously, sexism is someone's jam. Don't let me yuck your yum,

Exhausting
Revisado: 03-23-23
If you want to listen to a story of never ending grief, this is your book. Most of the story is an indulgent fantasy of her "perfect" dead boyfriend who always says and does the most romantic things which leaves you feeling really empty cause it's all imagined and fake and you don't connect with the relationship whatsoever. It's hard to call a character who loses their boyfriend in an terrible accident selfish, but....she makes a decision to leave her family and go on vacation at a really pivotal moment and it's infuriating and unbelievable. The love interest, apart from her dead boyfriend, is predictable and underdeveloped. An unrealized "flash in the pan" at the very end. I skipped through half of the book and if I were you, I'd skip it entirely.
Liked the authors other books though :)

Takes a minute to get going but worth it
Revisado: 03-06-23
First, I love the narrator. She is superb. I've listened to this twice now within the last month. Love a good enemies to lovers story. I like the way the story sweeps across the years. There are a few times when the angst is a little too drawn out, and I wish we were given a little more details to each characters developing internal love. It was totally worth the credit and it will likely be one I go back and listen too again while skipping a couple chapters.
