Historia
Branded traitor since the Heresy, the motives and actions of the Alpha Legion have always been shrouded in mystery. Alpha Legionnaire Occam the Untrue leads his warband out of its hunting grounds in the Maelstrom on an epic quest for salvation, not just for himself, but for his whole Legion. With the forces of the Inquisition snapping at their heels, Occam and his followers must use all their guile and considerable martial prowess as they make their way to the cold heart of the galaxy, to a confrontation that no one, least of all Occam himself, could have foreseen.

I think this is one of the most skippable warhammer novels I've ever read, and I've gone through the entire HH and SoT so it's not like I can't enjoy reading 9000 pages about someone taking a wall... But this book... hell... it's not even an Alpha Legion book, not really.

One of the best black library books ever. It depicts the slaves of darkness so brilliantly. Other than that it’s just an all out awesome barbarian novel, as great as any Conan novel.

Born to a life of political conflict, Perturabo was always considered a child prodigy among the people of Olympia - indeed, his philosophical and scientific works were beyond compare. But then, after his rediscovery by the Emperor and decades of thankless military campaigning on the Great Crusade, the primarch begins to resent his Legion's place in the Imperium.

Worst display of a Primarch ever
Revisado: 01-02-24
I’m not sure what went through the authors mind when he wrote this book. Nothing about Perturabo makes sense. I get why people MEME about his autism, but he’s more bipolar than Curze… but in a way that is written so that his character just doesn’t fit together. Maybe the author meant to be more clear about how the logical mindset was a shield he put up to protect himself from his changing moods, but it falls so flat, that maybe it wasn’t the author’s intention at all.
Read the magnus book instead if you want to read about Peter Turbo.

Historia
The fortress world of Regium has a proud history, For millennia, it has endured when others have fallen to ruin and damnation, standing defiant in defence of the Imperium of Man. But now it is shaken. Parasitic plagues run rampant, and Regium's citizens are haunted by dreams of horrific monsters feasting upon their flesh and marrow. Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines recognises these signs of an impending Tyranid invasion all too well. Rallying his warriors, the battle-hardened veteran launches a strike force to slaughter the xenos in the outer system, before it can reach Regium.

Great tyranid story
Revisado: 07-04-23
This is the best “advertisement” novel that I’ve read from Black Library. The Cursed City novel was also up there, but that sort of drowned in the release drama around the lack of game copies. Many of these game release novels aren’t very good, however, Indomitus being the previous 40K release novel was outright terrible, but Leviathan is good.
I think this novel is the first time that the Tyranids are actually fun to read. For whatever reason GW seems to really struggle to write them in a way that's interesting, but there are parts of this novel where the way they work is just so brilliantly described (and expanded). Judging by the reception of this book, this review being one of them, I think maybe the "hidden" advertisement in the book has worked. It's not a very good Imperium novel, but I think it's the most engaging the Tyranids have ever been in a novel. You get a look into the intelligence behind them in a way no other Black Library writer has been able to do. Not even in the Tyranid PoV parts of the Baal invasion novel that I've forgotten the name of. If you like Tyranids or even the Genestealer Cults, and if you like the more horror side of 40K than the bolterporn, then you’ll like this book.
Between Leviathan and Adrian Tchaikovskys Day of Ascension I think it's actually the first time in 40K history, that it's interesting to play the bugs.
I’m not a fan of the performer. I don’t think he’s as bad as people here say, but the voice he does for when humans are stressed or in distress is terrible. It’s almost a bit sexist as it’s even worse for the women.

Wow
Revisado: 06-27-23
This is easily the best 40k novel I’ve had the pleasure of reading. It’s the first time a Primarch behaves like an actual adult, and man it’s a great thing to experience. That being said, I’m not sure how good this book is going to be for you if you have not read the Dark Angels part of the Horus Heresy, or indeed a lot of the Horus Heresy in general. There is sooo much “fan-service” to middle aged dads who know and love the 40K lore on this book that it I think it needs that foundation to be enjoyed as much as I did.
The lion has grown up, and grows up throughout the story, and it’s just a great way to build the Dark Angels into the coolest legion in the grim dark future . And I say that as someone who disliked both the lion and his legion as they were previously portrayed in the lore. It does sort of position the Imperium, or at least humanity, as more of the good guys in the setting that what has previously been done, at least compared to chaos. So maybe we’re moving into an “era” of 40K lore where GW and the black library are leaving some of the 80ies satire behind to focus on more “modern” issues with right wing fanatics instead of the Thatcher and Reaganism of the past. I won’t mind that. One of the reasons I prefer the Age of Sigmar universe is exactly because it gives are more nuanced picture on the issues we face in modern society, but many might not like it if the Imperium and other non-chaos, non-tyrannied races become “good guys” in a universe that never had any.
If you like 40K you’ll like this book. Maybe don’t read it as your first one, but once you’ve read about Caliban you can jump right in.

The Inner Walls are breached. Traitor vanguards tear towards the heart of the Palace, sensing victory. Desperate gambits are attempted: an unwilling saint is released into the ruins, as well as an enthusiastic sinner. A black sword rises, forged from spite, ready to create a legend. But amid the slaughter, Jaghatai Khan, Warhawk of Chogoris, prepares to launch the most audacious strike of the conflict. His goal is nothing less than the liberation of the Lion's Gate space port.

The war for the fate of mankind blazes on. Though the outer defences have fallen, the walls of the Palace itself remain inviolate as Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian of Terra himself, uses every known stratagem and ploy to keep Horus' vast armies at bay. In Perturabo, the Traitor siegebreaker, Dorn faces an adversary worthy of his skill. A terrible, grinding attrition ensues. The crucial battle for the Lion's Gate spaceport is at the heart of this conflict. With it in their possession, the Traitors can land their most devastating weapons on Terran soil. Dorn knows it must not fall.

Better than the two previous books, but not much. The many switches around the story doesn’t work too well, and over all it’s just rather boring. You can make a drinking game out of how many times the author repeats certain words.

It’s not good, but you’ll read it anyway
Revisado: 05-18-23
Having recently read some of the more recent Age or Sigmar books on a break from 40k I came back fully ready to go to terra. I wasn’t a fan of the first book in the series, that felt rushed, this one isn’t like that but it’s just so… bad?
There are some fun primary moments, but this book just didn’t take me anywhere interesting. I mean, if you’re are reading this book you know what is going to happen. I don’t see anyone stumbling into this book, even if GW tried to “refresh” the HH series by calling it something else, and this book basically does nothing for you. There is nothing interesting in it. It’s just a filler book that might as well have been a small foot note.
I don’t think it’s particularly well written either. There are some “I am very smart” moments from the author that I didn’t like much. Which is odd for Guy Haley, he usually writes well, but this time it’s just meh. Like I said in the title of my review, you’re going to read it anyway, but my advice to you is to not worry too much about where you listen to the audiobook. If you miss a few pages it really wont matter. Good luck and see you on the next one.

Historia
Nyssa Volari is dying. But that is impossible, because she is a Soulblight vampire, blessed by Nagash with blood-fuelled immortality. More than that, Nyssa is a fighter – one of the handful of Kastelai vampires not dissolved into true death when the Crimson Keep abandoned them a century ago. With her blades and her will, she carved a kingdom out of the Broken Plains of Aqshy. These things matter little, for Nyssa's blood is cursed. It destroyed the vampire she called father, and as it threatens to do the same to her, Nyssa's allies abandon her one by one.

Best warhammer novel yet
Revisado: 04-18-23
This book is so good it makes me want to lower my rating of every other warhammer review I’ve written because they don’t belong with this one. I won’t do that, but this is an excellent novel.
It has a few aspects of “what will happen if two teenage generals go to war” but I didn’t mind much.
If you like Age or Sigmar you’ll probably like this book too.
