For the first time, in Fifth Sun, the history of the Aztecs is offered in all its complexity based solely on the texts written by the indigenous people themselves. Camilla Townsend presents an accessible and humanized depiction of these native Mexicans, rather than seeing them as the exotic, bloody figures of European stereotypes.

Sun Soaked & Incredibly Rich History
Revisado: 02-01-24
Truly a wonderful delving into an indigenous history that was either washed over or bulldozed with pathetic lies.
This is merely a jumping off point or anchor for myself, but for anyone looking for a touch point into rectifying the white washed history they learned as children and young adults… this is a great book to start with.
And it’s a wonderfully rich history, sun and blood soaked.

Historia
We congratulate ourselves when we resist the donut in the office breakroom. We celebrate our restraint when we hold back from sending an email in anger. We feel virtuous when we wake up at dawn to get a jump on the day. We put others’ needs ahead of our own and believe this makes us exemplary. In On Our Best Behavior, journalist Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses—often lauded as unselfish, distinctly feminine instincts—are actually ingrained in us by a culture that reaps the benefits, via an extraordinarily effective collection of mores known as the Seven Deadly Sins.

Ooooof… Did Anyone Edit Or Influence This..?
Revisado: 01-03-24
There is rarely an original thought, idea, anecdote, or insight in here and I would argue this is the worst of "influencer" cult-ure.
This is another shallow compilation and aggregation of others' works' enshrouded in the bullshittery of influence based capitalism. The premise is sound, the thesis intriguing, but the work is as hollow as the goop is plodding fuckery.
And where were the editors? Ooof.
I want my time back and this is a reminder that all "guests" on every outlet are merely extensions of the PR arm of all parties involved.

Historia
The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is neither a hand-wringing narrative of danger and decline nor a digital fairy tale. Rather, it offers a deeply reasoned and evocative examination of the contests over the next chapter of capitalism that will decide the meaning of information civilization in the 21st century. The stark issue at hand is whether we will be the masters of information and machines or its slaves.

Historia
In the 21st century, humanity is reaching new heights of scientific understanding - and at the same time appears to be losing its mind. How can a species that developed vaccines for COVID-19 in less than a year produce so much fake news, medical quackery, and conspiracy theorizing? Pinker rejects the cynical cliché that humans are an irrational species - cavemen out of time saddled with biases, fallacies, and illusions.

Historia
Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them. And as Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

Miller has compiled an incredible history of the semiconductor industry and his telling reinforces the notions that the industry is not only vital to national security, but essential to global, if not local economic growth and our species (future) prosperity.

Historia
This is the authoritative, “deeply reported” (The Wall Street Journal) account of an eighteen-month crisis in American democracy that will be seared into the country’s political memory for decades to come. With stunning, in-the-room detail, New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns show how both our political parties confronted a series of national traumas, including the coronavirus pandemic, the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and the political brinksmanship of President Biden’s first year in the White House.

One of the worst books and most moronic attempts at creating an intellectual framework I have ever read.

Historia
American society has always been fertile ground for conspiracy theories, but with the election of Donald Trump, previously outlandish ideas suddenly attained legitimacy. Trump himself is a conspiracy enthusiast: from his claim that global warming is a Chinese hoax to the accusations of “fake news”, he has fanned the flames of suspicion. But it was not by the power of one man alone that these ideas gained new power. Republic of Lies looks beyond the caricatures of conspiracy theorists to explain their tenacity.

Republic of Lies... Essential Listening.
Revisado: 01-20-21
This is a must listen for everyone as we work to put the last 4 years of lies and corruption behind us. We must understand American fantasy and American’s susceptibility to believe anything due to the stressors of unfulfilled promises from the sovereign state. With prosperity for all comes truth and rigorous honesty, unlike the conspiracies and lies that have festered under the kakistocracy of a reality TV goon and his family.
Thank you Anna, this book is an incredible deep dive and explanation of how we got to inflection and insurrection point.
