"Deliciously Twisted" and Darkly Delightful
Revisado: 10-11-24
"Deliciously Twisted" – there's just no better way to say it. These stories are the ones I want to recommend to everyone, but hesitate because they'll all know what a weirdo I am at heart. But I do anyway.
Mike Lukas knows how to pack a strong punch in a concise format. The book contains 14 stories that are quick and easy to read/listen to, but the characters and storylines are better developed than stories ten times their length.
These tales bring out the darkest humor from the hidden part of my brain and make me feel alive. I want to listen to them again and again, but not in the car because my kids will freak out and be afraid of me.
It's difficult to choose any one favorite among the 14 stories. However, when you listen to the story of Pixie the dog in "Anything for a Treat," you'll hear the one that sticks with me the most. (I’ll never look at my Golden Retriever, Stella, in quite the same way again.)
I initially bought this book in audio format and loved listening to the author read his own stories. Then I bought the physical book so I could keep it forever. Nobody gave it to me for free in exchange for this review - I paid for it. Twice. And I'd do it again.
If you call yourself a fan of dark humor, and you don't own this book, you need to rethink your existence.

Historia
When Kate wins an item at her children’s elementary school auction - an all-inclusive trip to SeaView at Sandpiper Bay - she thinks it’s just what her family needs after a decade of career disappointments and a marriage on its last legs. She has no reason to believe that said trip is a Fyre Festival-level fraud and, in fact, the catalyst to her unraveling. But it is. Oh, but it is.

Great story, perfectly narrated
Revisado: 05-18-23
I really enjoyed this story, and the narration perfectly captures the author’s and character’s voice. You might not want to listen to it out loud in the presence of your kids if you’re cautious about adult language.
I do wish Audible would implement some kind of content rating system for adult language, as they often do with violent or sexual content. It would help parents know which books are not okay to listen to in the car with kids.
