I’ve listened to this book twice now, and will be starting it again today. Rob (Fox) keeps things concise and practical, so if you’re looking for lots of theory or specific technical instruction, this is not that book— but don’t think that takes away from the immense value of the content here. It focuses heavily on the kind of mindset you need to be a successful web designer AND business owner. If all you want to be is a web designer that sells time for money, this won’t be of much use to you. But if you want to be a business owner that learns how to use web design as a path to trading value for money and incrementally building on success to the point that you have complete job-optional financial freedom and flexibility to live your life, then buy this book now.

Rob uses two contrasting characters throughout the book whose journeys in web design and business ownership function as parables about what to do and what not to do, based on real life lessons that Rob himself learned the hard way, as well as his multitude of students over many years. The fictional stories illustrate why the proper mindset, a little direction, and focused tenacity are far more valuable than years of training, lots of money, or even above average intelligence. The many real life success stories prove it.

Some have claimed that this book is little more than an ad for the Fox Web School, and to that I say, so what? It has certainly sold me, and I’ll be signing up very soon. But don’t think that you won’t still absorb tremendous knowledge or that Rob is holding back here. This book serves as the foundation for your strategy and mindset, which includes continual learning, so if someone is upset that at the end of a mere 3 hour book they still have to learn things, they weren’t paying attention. No it does not contain guidance for every conceivable step along your journey as a web design business owner, but it will definitely get you going in the right direction, and that is the most crucial part of any journey.

This is the only Audible review I’ve written to date, because few books have challenged my thinking like this one has. If you are undecided about buying this book, I recommend checking out some of Rob’s free content like I did. The no BS approach and truly valuable information I found in his YouTube videos are what gave me confidence to buy this book, and I’m glad I did. Don’t just take my word for it though, give it a shot and see for yourself! You won’t regret it.
