How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Interesting thesis, not well defended...

...not even sure his examples support his overall argument in some cases. Reads more like a first or second draft in need of a good editor.

Historia
What story begins in a bedroom in suburban New Jersey in the early '60s, unfolds on some of the country's largest stages, and then ranges across the globe, demonstrating over and over again how rock and roll has the power to change the world for the better? This story. The first true heartbeat of Unrequited Infatuations is the moment when Stevie Van Zandt trades in his devotion to the Baptist religion for an obsession with rock and roll.

Historia
Anna Kendrick's autobiographical collection of essays amusingly recounts memorable moments throughout her life, from her middle-class upbringing in New England to the blockbuster movies that have made her one of Hollywood's most popular actresses today. Expanding upon the witty and ironic dispatches for which she is known, Anna Kendrick's essays offer her one-of-a-kind commentary on the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture.

VERY entertaining...
Revisado: 12-12-19
At the ripe old age of thirtysomething, Ms. Kendrick surprising has quite a few interesting things to say. Even more impressive is just how well she says them: shes thoughtful, warm, amusing and - as it turns out - quite a good writer. Major bonus points for turning life's inevitable setbacks into cause for personal reflection and self improvement instead of bitter remorse and hurtful personal attacks that are so common in today's landscape.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Historia
The Grateful Dead rose to greatness under the inspired leadership of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but the band very nearly died along with him. When Garcia passed away suddenly in 1995, the remaining band members experienced full crises of confidence and identity. So long defined by Garcia's vision for the group, the surviving "Core Four", as they came to be called, were reduced to strained relationships, and catastrophic business decisions. It would take 20 years before relationships were mended enough for the Grateful Dead as fans remembered them to once again take the stage.

Finally, a book that keeps it real!
Revisado: 09-20-18
After all the glossy coffee table books and tributes written by folks that have been drinking the (electric) Kool-Aid for decades, we finally have a well-researched account that gives us some true perspective regarding the surviving band members from 1995 through to today. It also sheds some much-needed light on Phil and Friends, which essentially has operated as a Dead cover band for decades now. To me, that's the same as Stu Cook -the original bass player from CCR - touring with a group of other musicians that call themselves Creedence Clearwater Revisited, playing (and profiting off of) all of John Fogerty's songs night after night. Then you get a chance to see a John Fogerty show - or in this case Dead & Company with Bob Weir standing center stage in front of Mickey & Bill - and you realize there's a very big difference between margarine and butter!

More AND Less of what you might expect...
Revisado: 02-06-18
If you are a Wainwright fan, you know pretty much what your in for here as you've been hearing about these topics for decades now in practically all of his songs. There's plenty of added detail about the numerous and complicated relationships throughout his life, and while he does cop to his share of the blame he never really seems to admit to all the damage his reckless and selfish behavior most likely caused those he was closest to. Even sadder, at 70 plus years now -with all that water under the bridge and after all the self reflection - you get the feeling there's still not that much joy in his life.
In regard to more practical matters, the book is more serious than funny, so if you re a fan of his lighter, more humorous work this might not be for you. If you knew his dad wrote but never read any of his work, there are some great pieces included here and they are beautifully read by an admiring son. The musical performances - although often incomplete and somewhat bland compared to the originals - are interwoven nicely and often provide excellent context ( not to mention a welcome walk down memory lane for his long time listeners).
All in all, a nice job and one that benefits greatly from being read by its author.
