Historia
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Waste of time
Revisado: 02-26-25
I really enjoyed several books by Fredrik but the two short stories that I’ve read have been a waste of time. I won’t read another.

Historia
Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life—children, careers, bills, chores—even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then a deployment sends Jolene deep into harm's way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider, she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth.

Best ever book
Revisado: 10-04-24
If you haven’t listened to this book, stop what you’re reading and read this one. It is probably the best audiobook I’ve ever “read”! I was drawn in by the characters and the realistic lives they live. It’s not all roses, it’s real life and deals with the ups and downs of marriage, career, family, friendships, raising children and loyalty to family and country. I love that I was able to see inside the life of a service person, particularly that of a woman and the sacrifices they make for us! This author did an excellent job of highlighting the truth.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Courageous men
Revisado: 09-08-23
Amazing true life story of wartime courage and the strength to believe in a rescue. I find the military’s several failures to follow up on a missing ship appalling.

Great story
Revisado: 07-25-23
If you can get through the first few chapters with the constant whispering voice of the narrator, you’ll get used to it and find a very good story.

I love this author!
Revisado: 01-18-23
This book is the third in an excellent series by an incredible author. It can stand alone but there’s so much more to it when you know the history of each character. I encourage everyone to first read (or better yet, listen to) BearTown and Us Against You. They’re great!
I’ve read all FB’s books, hate for each one to finish and when done I immediately search for another. They’re certainly worth your time. The novella (Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer) was the only one with which I was not impressed.

Just ok
Revisado: 10-13-22
The storyline was just ok enough to keep me interested but it became tiresome listening to “He said” “she said”, which were the only responses. No “he replied” or “… answered,” etc. Also, perhaps it was only the narrators voice but the main characters reactions were overreactions and she seemed unnecessarily argumentative. I wondered why she didn’t respond with reason instead of getting upset so quickly. It seemed immature.

Historia
Stan and Jacqui Winston had a good life. Two good jobs, two healthy kids, and a three-bedroom bungalow. Stan, however, had a gambling problem, and while he told Jacqui he was through with it, he managed to sneak out from time to time. While on vacation in Florida, a random quarter would change their lives. Stan hit the jackpot, but the resort owner couldn’t pay. Old and tired, the owner agreed to sell the motel at a discount to settle the debt. Little did the Winstons know that owning the Flamingo Inn was the exact opposite of the “deal of a lifetime” they thought it was.

A Short Story for a Smile
Revisado: 03-22-22
It amazes me that one can come up with such an imaginative idea and write a story. This one will make you smile. I used a credit to buy it and although a credit usually buys 8-14 hours of listening time, it was worth it to try this new audible author’s work. I will watch for more of his stories and continue to listen to him as he develops his gift.

Revisado: 03-22-18
I love this series and all of Jan Karon’s books. What was disappointing to me was the change in the narrator. I grew so fond of Father Tim and his gentle voice and personality. Although the narrator of this book read well, his voice was not as gentle and he seemed younger that Father Tim. I miss the old priest; it just wasn’t quite the same.
