My brother is bleeding. My stepsister is gone. The ones responsible called themselves family. By blood, and now by marriage. I want to destroy them for what they've done. Burn everything they have to the ground. But first I need to find her. Ryth. The pathetic little mouse that scurried into our lives and made a home. I can't forget her; can't get her out of my head. She unleashed something dangerous in me. Something that drove me to ruin her. And ruined myself in the process. She was once a game to me; she still is...only this time it's for keeps.

this was hard to get through
Revisado: 12-30-23
The characters were all just really dumb. Granted they are all very young, but they were all completely run by emotion and maybe a handful of brain cells between them. As far as the story goes, literally nothing happened. The story ended where it began and, still, nothing was explained.

Family is everything; I always knew my father was a cold, heartless bastard. But the moment he took Elle Castlemaine and her pathetic daughter into our home, barely a month after our mom died, he unleashed something savage inside me. I didn't care they lost their home. Didn't care their father was behind bars. Didn't care he betrayed the notorious Stidda Mafia boss, Benjamin Rossi, and now their lives were in danger.

lack of plot
Revisado: 12-21-23
This book was a bit of a disappointment. There was no character development. No relationship development. It was just from 0 to 100- no in between. Actually having a story plot seemed like an after thought. There were just names thrown about here and there with no real explanations. It seems the spice was the main purpose here and I would only give that a 3.
The narration was done well and it was an easy listen. All in all, not terrible just not what I was hoping for.

Kyran Harbor is everything I'm not. Rich. Popular. A superstar football player who's awfully broody for someone who has it all. Basically, he's a preppy jock who hates me. Oh, and he's also my stepbrother. That's right. We're stuck together, sharing a school, a house, a bathroom. Honestly I wouldn't care if he wasn't such an uptight control freak who messes with me just because we're different. I had every intention of avoiding him when we got to college. Until abrupt misfortune forces us both into a compromising position.

This book was all around amazing! I couldn't get enough of Ky and Avi! Such a great story. The spice in this book was so good, but it did not overwhelm or take away from. the story at all. I had all the feels listening to this one.

Worst Narrator ever
Revisado: 10-02-23
This book was so hard to get through. Sofia Wilingham butchered the hell out of this book. The male narrators were not bad.
The story was definitely taboo, a little ridiculous, but I enjoyed it. This was the 2nd novel I listened to by Penelope Douglas, and it was almost my last. I'm glad I gave her other books a shot - she has become a favorite.
If you are interested in this book in the slightest, I recommend just reading it normally. Skip the audio version.

Revisado: 02-14-23
This book was alright. The narrator wasn't hard to listen to either. She just didn't do well with differentiating between characters. They all sounded too similar. Overall It was a decent listen. It just doesn't make me want to hurry to listen to more by this author.

Historia
In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

Kathryn Casey did an amazing job of telling Belinda's tragic story. Colleen Marlo did an amazing job of narrating it!

It was good
Revisado: 11-27-22
It was a good story. It wasn't super suspenseful, though, like I was hoping for. My reaction to "the big reveal" was, "Oh, okay." It started out a little slow, but then it got interesting. I am looking forward to the second novel in the series.
Another thing for me was that the main character would reference well-known murderers and every time, it would take me out of the book and make me feel like I was listening to Morbid. (huge fan, btw) I could have done without so much explanation on them, but that is just me.
This read like a great first book from an author who can only improve from here. I really hope she puts out more novels.
I feel like the narrators really did it justice. they were great.
Side note: were the book's John and Andrew dating? I see what you did there.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Revisado: 11-05-22
Scarlett's narration was excellent - it was the only thing that got me through the book. To me, the story was very boring. It was hard to finish. Thankfully, it was very short.

It was okay
Revisado: 10-24-22
The narrators were great. The story was pretty good. There was a lot of child abuse that was really hard to get through. I had to stop listening several times so I wouldn't be sick. I find it hard to fathom anybody thinking those things or even just writing them for a story.
