Regarding the narrator: Scott Brick needs no introduction. IMHO there is no better. Now, about the new format, where this delightful author shares a bit of inside info at the end of some chapters. The argument could be made that the author could have just included his inner thoughts in the book, but it wouldn't have been the same. There was something special about hearing his insights in his own voice on this audio book. It was like like having a good friend telling inner thoughts about some secret he was sharing. It made the story much more intimate. I hope to see many more books being done this way, especially by this author!

As with all Dean Koontz books, the writing is outstanding. Both my husband and I loved the story. We always make it a habit to listen to an entire book before having an in-depth discussion about it, so as not to bias each other's enjoyment. We prefer to immerse ourselves entirely in the experience, 'living' the story. However, Dylan Baker's voice struck us both as a bit too nasal and his delivery distracting. He speaks clearly and his pronunciation is fine, but it seems that he has not familiarized himself with the beauty and comprehension of the chapters before he reads. It was particularly jarring when he read " ... sentence ... However ... (comma) ... next sentence ... ". He read the 'however' as if it was a sentence all by itself. It made no sense and pulled us out of any immersion into the fascinating story. Examples of this type happen frequently throughout the book. I hate to give any Dean Koontz book less than the maximum five stars, but the narration of this one definitely interfered with our total experience. We would absolutely recommend this book, but not without a caveat about the narrator.

I wish I could remember how this book came to my attention as a recommendation. We enjoyed every moment of listening. The narration is great, but the book ... oh, the book is fantastic! We are in our 70s, but have enjoyed video games, pinball games ... many kinds of gaming over the years. This story is wound around gaming, but it is much more than that. It has suspense, excitement, well-developed characters and lots of laughs. And the memories it brings back of the music and games of the 70s, 80s and 90s are a joy. So to whoever recommended it ... thank you ... and in turn, we recommend it highly.

The Joy of Rediscovering Piers Anthony

Years and years ago, our family tumbled into the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. We anticipated each entry into the series, reading aloud as a family group and quoting the puns for months, even years after. Time passed; the books passed from children to grandchildren and my husband and I, now great-grandparents, fell prey to cataracts and all the other travesties of old age. Enter Audible and three years of catching up on old favorite stories. Sadly, the Xanth novels have not yet made the transition to audio ... but what was this? Another series by Piers? Surely this would measure up to our expectations. And it has ... in spades. Split Infinity hooked us from the very beginning and as the story unfolded we reveled in the author's skill weaving words. The narrator, Traber Burns, speaks clearly, distinctly and at an even volume. We despise books where we are constantly required to adjust the volume. Best of all, this narrator does NOT mispronounce words. Nothing tears a listener out of the story flow more than a mispronounced word. Also, Mr. Burns does not 'act' the narration. He demonstrates character changes with perfect inflection. This combination of author and narrator makes Split Infinity a pure joy to hear. We look forward to hearing the rest of the series. We highly recommend this book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a well-balanced view of the problems we face in the North.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Bob Reiss presents a well-researched book detailing what Alaska and the United States will be facing in the near future.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

Living in interior Alaska for over 35 years, we have a fairly narrow view of the Northern lands. This book opened our eyes to the importance of our state in the near and far future ... politically, militarily and more. For Alaskans, this is scary.

Any additional comments?

Bob Reiss presents the reader with both sides of a dilemma that has no perfect solution, though both sides, the elder native Alaskans and the oil companies, are working to do their best. The natives need the oil revenues desperately. Prudhoe Bay oil is drying up. The oil companies need a new, rich domestic source of oil. The solution lies beneath the shelf ice which is now melting north of the North Slope. The problem? The most promising oil fields are in the waters used by the natives for over 4000 years for their traditional whale hunts. Most people outside of Alaska (or Outside, as we call it up here) do not realize the importance of the whale hunts to the native existence. This book explains that, and more. It also gives a fantastic, detailed history of ice and all the different types of ice. Even the government goes to our natives to learn about ice. No one knows more. The Eskimo and the Oil Man explains what is resulting from climate change. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in our nation's future. It lies in the North.

What made the experience of listening to Go the F--k to Sleep the most enjoyable?

I am 70 yrs old, have raised 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and now have one great-grandchild. This book made me laugh till the tears were running down my cheeks and my sides were hurting. I understand that some folk might object to the language ... I can only hope they might get past their prejudices and enjoy this masterpiece. Think of the author as having an internal dialog.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

(Spoiler:) There comes a moment when the child finally goes to sleep, parent sits down to relax and enjoy movie ... with popcorn ... from the microwave ... DING. You guessed it. I play this audio whenever I need a quick laugh. It's on top of my favorites list.
