Only Grainger ever to disappoint

This may actually be a terrific book but the narration is so alternately flat, squeaky, monotonal I just couldn't get past the first three chapters.

This is my third or fourth time reading of this marvelous book. I may have even reviewed it before; if I haven't it's time I did. Barbara Kingsolver is just a wonderful writer. Her prose takes takes my breath away and satisfies.

I read The Poisonwood Bible when it came out in the late ''90s and never really stopped. The narrator, Dean Robertson, does wonderfully well with the accents and characterizations.

Just a few words as about the narration itself. The story is told by 5 female characters. Each character provides several well spaced chapters, and it is in the words and thoughts of these five souls that the story unfolds. Going back and forth between them is exciting and again, deeply satisfying.

It seems that Dean Robertson, the narrator, does all of it. Remarkable and Bravo! I also highly recommend the epigraph. B.K. knows how to wring one's heart ... in the best of ways. JBS

It's hard not to be thrilled when the latest DC Smith,. arrives because, after all, we're all old friends. I have to say though that this is the first time I've been just a little disappointed in the story. Maybe I'm just dense but there seemed to be a loose end concerning a mysterious reoccurring character. Saving for the next installment?

I'm absolutely stunned by the way in which Peter Grainger picks up the loose threads that he so meticulously knitted in to earlier stories. Here we get a glimpse into both DC Smith's personal story and the turbulence of the Irish troubles. And Gildart Jackson inhabits each of the characters with his usual impeccable style.

These stories are so rich with language and plot every single one is a delight. James is known for his lengthy sentences; nevertheless, I found the stories an easy listen. This can only be due to the skill of the narrators and I feel they should each be noted.

Jonathan Epstein deserves a medal for The Jolly Corner, very Jamesian, with an unexpected and fitting ending. It’s a complicated and fascinating story and Epstein handles the material admirably.

Alison Larkin provides fine acting; a dash of comedy, emotion and chill in The Third Person. Larkin’s reading is spot on.

Anne Undeland reads with a voice perfect for James. It's a shame the Master isn't able to hear her read The Romance of Certain Old Clothes. What a title. A story of legacy and neglect of same, and the somewhat horrific aftermath which ensues.

I was so happy to hear the narrator of At The Existentialist Cafe on this audio! Antonia Beamish’s rich and thoughtful reading of the following two stories is a treasure. I do believe The Turn of the Screw she narrates is one of the best audio editions out there. This audio version presents this masterpiece in a whole new and very interesting light. She also narrates The Way It Came: the story concerns a very odd not so romantic threesome.

The delightful James Warwick (I’ve been an admirer since the Agatha Christie series Tommy and Tuppence) creates a battlefield amongst a traditional military family; a fascinating stately home in England, complete with glowering ancestors leering from the portraits lining the halls. Owen Wingrave, the title character of the story is a most appealing character; the house is spooky for sure, but nevertheless I loved being in it.

Corinna May’s voice is pure pleasure. The Real Right Thing is a story about stirring up old bones and a biographical undertaking.

Jim Frangione, one of my favorite narrators, in The Ghostly Rental tells of a student curious and obsessed with the possibly haunted house he has rented. The ending of this one is most interesting. Frangione reads it to perfection.

Mark Zeisler’s reading of Sir Edmond Orme is chilling to the bone and yet oddly enjoyable. His portrayals of the various characters involved with a silent ghost with a doomed romantic past is captivating and realistic.

All in all, a wonderful way to spend time with Henry James.

What a story. How come a newshound like me (MSNBC and CNN, mainly) hasn't eeard a word about this scandal. I can't read amymore, and am grateful to Audible forpresenting this remarkable rendition of mendacity, cruelty, honor and goodwill. All these things and more in a few packed hours.

I was riveted allday and finished it in one sitting. It involves the squeaky clean George Shultz, a hoodwinked Grandson, Tyler Schultz, until he wasn't anymore.. A terrific story, brilliantly written and read by Tyler Shultz himself. His ordeal was immense. and took some agonizing years to to unravel. Tyler anaged to get through it with out sullying himself. You have to love the guy. J Scheffey

The best DCI Banks so far, and most are darned good. . "Blood at the Root" is beautifully plotted; interesting and dastardly villains, and Alan's rounding up of them is exquisite.
