Historia
David Tatel has served nearly 30 years on America’s second highest court, the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where many of our most crucial cases are resolved—or teed up for the Supreme Court. He has championed equal justice for his entire adult life; decided landmark environmental and voting cases; and embodied the ideal of what a great judge should be. Yet he has been blind for the past 50 of his 80-plus years.

Every American should read this.

David Tatel is a beautiful writer. This memoir taught me so much about our legal system, in a very understandable and interesting way. In addition, his personal journey with becoming blind from RP is both universally human, and super human.

The stunning new thriller - the 20th Doc Ford novel - from New York Times best-selling author Randy Wayne White. Both Doc Ford and his friend Tomlinson have buried secrets. My favorite Doc Ford
Revisado: 07-15-23
This book has multiple intersecting stories as all the Doc Ford Novels do. Here they augment and complement each other perfectly, and they modulate between suspenseful, funny, and interesting. We meet the the snake-slayer dog, Pete, and the final Hannah Smith. We learn about the Avengers and the Bermuda triangle. And Doc gets a frenemy, an undercover assassin who is cooler, slimmer, richer—deadlier. It is a great book to listen to as well as read. I got used to the narrator after a while, though he does not sound like Doc would sound. He changes voice for different characters well.

Historia
Marine biologist Doc Ford invites Maribel, Luke, and Sabina to a remote island in the Bahamas where lionfish, a beautiful and venomous inhabitant of the South Pacific that has invaded Florida and the Caribbean, are not just upsetting the balance of nature by damaging the coral reefs - their sting has put several people in the hospital. What Doc and Captain Hannah Smith don’t mention is that the island is riddled with limestone caves, once home to a band of pirates, and stories of Spanish gold have lured outlaw treasure hunters to the area.

Great read for middle school kids and adults
Revisado: 07-01-23
I love this second book in White’s middle grade series. The writing about the Bahamas is beautiful and evocative, like in his Doc Ford books. The story is great for kids and a fun read for adults, too. it is written in a more straightforward style than the Doc Ford series, but portrays the complexity of life that even kids experience. All of the kids struggle with something—learning a new language, financial troubles at home, shyness, self doubt. But they persevere and succeed despite this. And one child does something really wrong, but then we understand why. It doesn’t excuse it, but gently helps kids understand what may be behind people’s actions.

Historia
The world’s shark population is in trouble for a sad, simple reason: shark fin soup. And although it’s illegal, poachers have been targeting Florida’s biannual migration of blacktip sharks. Marine biologist Doc Ford needs some assistance protecting the sharks and enlists the help of three kids - Luke, Maribel, and Sabina. Luke is brand-new to Florida from the Midwest; sisters Maribel and Sabina have only recently arrived from Cuba - and all three feel like fish out of water. It’s going to take some convincing for them to work as a team.
