Historia
We know it simply as "the pill", yet its genesis was anything but simple. Jonathan Eig's masterful narrative revolves around four principal characters: the fiery feminist Margaret Sanger, who was a champion of birth control in her campaign for the rights of women but neglected her own children in pursuit of free love; the beautiful Katharine McCormick, who owed her fortune to her wealthy husband, the son of the founder of International Harvester and a schizophrenic.

Superb and under-reported story
Revisado: 11-21-15
Great story, really highlights why reproductive rights are such an important element of women's rights. Onward!

Historia
Here is Cheryl, a tightly-wound, vulnerable woman who lives alone, with a perpetual lump in her throat. She is haunted by a baby boy she met when she was six, who sometimes recurs as other people's babies. Cheryl is also obsessed with Phillip, a philandering board member at the women's self-defense nonprofit where she works. She believes they've been making love for many lifetimes, though they have yet to consummate in this one.

Sincere without losing her sense of playfulness
Revisado: 06-22-15
Loved this novel. After M&Y&EWK I was disappointed by The Future, and wary that this novel might be further in that trajectory, but the dynamic of darkness and light is so wonderfully woven through this story. I loved it - still her voice but I found it much more sincere than TF and some of her short stories.

Historia
Growing a perfect moustache, grilling red meat, wooing a woman - who better to deliver this tutelage than the always charming, always manly Nick Offerman, best known as Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson? Combining his trademark comic voice and very real expertise in woodworking - he runs his own woodshop - Paddle Your Own Canoe features tales from Offerman's childhood in small-town Minooka, Illinois, to his theater days in Chicago, beginnings as a carpenter/actor and the hilarious and magnificent seduction of his now-wife Megan Mullally.

Offerman makes your heart into soup
Revisado: 01-27-15
Humble, kind, funny and raunchy, Nick Offerman's tale will either inspire you to live more deliciously or remind you f how deliciously you live. Maybe both. Otherwise, you have no heart to be made into soup in the first place and/or you're a vegetarian.
