Historia
June 1946. As the residents of Winthrop Island prepare for the first summer season after the sacrifice of war, a glamorous new figure moves into the guest cottage at Summerly, the idyllic seaside estate of the wealthy Peabody family. To Emilia Winthrop, daughter of Summerly’s year-round caretaker and a descendant of the island’s settlers, Olive Rainsford opens a window into a world of shining possibility. While Emilia spent the war years caring for her incapacitated mother, Olive traveled the world, married fascinating men, and involved herself in political causes.

It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. Interesting premise
Revisado: 11-19-24
Intriguing idea, but development was unimaginative. It seemed like a student was reworking a story that’s already been done.

Historia
It's senior party week, that magical in-between time after classes have ended but before graduation, chock-full of gimmicky theme parties, last-minute bonding, and family traditions. Olivia couldn't be more ready. Class salutatorian and confident in her future at LSU, she's poised to sail through to the next phase of her life. But when the tiny hiccup of an unsigned off-campus P.E. form puts Olivia in danger of not graduating at all, she has one week to set things straight without tipping off her very big and very nosy extended family.

Based on an entirely unrealistic premise.
Revisado: 06-08-24
The characters and their interactions were enjoyable. I loved the family dynamic. However, it was hard to get past the fact that the main character’s problem would never happen like that. In addition, the convoluted way that she handled the situation made no sense. It cheapened what could have been a really good story. It seemed like the author had some interesting plot lines but didn’t spend the time to wind them into a good base story.

Historia
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Slow start, ends strong
Revisado: 05-26-22
Narration is lacking but the end was worth the patience, maybe skip the first hundred pages or so

Quicksilver isn’t quick

This is a challenging book and you really have to pay attention. It’s not light reading. Still, very interesting and worth the listen.
