Historia
You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

Historia
It’s the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan’s: Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events—mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink—Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she’s saying.

There is a Dashiell Hammett 1940’s gumshoe flavor. It works for a terrific escape.

Historia
Mickey Gibson, single mother and former detective, leads a hectic life similar to that of many moms: juggling the demands of her two small children with the tasks of her job working remotely for ProEye, a global investigation company that hunts down wealthy tax and credit cheats. When Mickey gets a call from a colleague named Arlene Robinson, she thinks nothing of Arlene’s unusual request for her to go inventory the vacant home of an arms dealer who cheated ProEye’s clients and fled.

David Baldacci gave these voice actors great material to bring these words to life. I was captivated from the first word to the last. I can’t say that for every book I have read.

Much More Than A Summer “Stupid Thing”
Revisado: 02-11-24
All of the characters are well drawn and brought back many memories of coming alive during my summers on the coast of Massachusetts. I could easily relate with the relationships, friendships and life’s experiences especially holding on to big secrets. Looking forward to more from Stewart Lewis.

Historia
Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

Judge not lest you be judged
Revisado: 02-21-23
Reading reviews is not something I do before reading or listening to a book. Everyone’s taste is different. I was extremely glad I had not read the reviews because unlike a bunch of them. I found this riveting. Was it perfect? No. But what is? This Audible is one I had difficulty putting down. And my reaction at the end was an audible “Whoa” and had to sit and collect my feelings. Was it Ken Follett’s best? No! But in the top 10. January LaVoy brought most the characters to life perfectly with only a few exceptions. Ultimately it scared the bejeezus out of me be reminded of our precarious our existence is given how real people can make horrific decisions letting personal politics get in the way of good judgment.

Out of This World “The Home Coming”
Revisado: 02-21-23
It is not often that I stick with one book at a time. This one was that exception. The writing and plot kept my attention with the added brilliance of the voice actor Luke Daniels. If that one actor did it all, my attention will be drawn immediately to anything else on their resume.
