Historia
Athena Liu is a literary darling and June Hayward is literally nobody. When Athena dies in a freak accident, June steals her unpublished manuscript and publishes it as her own under the ambiguous name Juniper Song. But as evidence threatens June’s stolen success, she will discover exactly how far she will go to keep what she thinks she deserves. What happens next is entirely everyone else’s fault.

The banal nature of the plot development and the extremely limited narcissistic and bullying lead character
Revisado: 03-24-24
I liked very little of this story. June is so limited. The characters are undeveloped. It’s nonsensical. The ending is meh. It’s too long and indulgent.

Hated the male narration
Revisado: 01-05-21
I found the male narration grating and whining. The story is a reflection of values from a previous time and maybe relevant then but quite mysogynistic and demeaning. I can’t recommend it.

Good story, awful narrator
Revisado: 05-16-18
The story line was interesting and engaging but the narrator nearly made me send this book back - unconvincing and a disaster with the male characters, forced and grating.

Historia
One of the most important novels in classic literature, Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter tackles the subject of adultery, with the notorious Hester Prynne at the forefront of the scandal in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In the beginning of the novel, Hester is serving time in prison for having a child out of wedlock and is forced to wear a scarlet A on her clothing at all times, so she cannot run from her sin no matter where she goes.

Boring Antique
Revisado: 11-23-16
A puritanical novel written in the most construed, convoluted language of the time which for me casts this work as an irrelevant antique
There is nothing in the plot that pulls the novel out of its mediocrity and historical relevance

Historia
From its first moments, Hunter takes you on a nonstop thrill ride: from the top floor of the CIA, to the marbled corridors of Capitol Hill...from the posh hotels of downtown Washington, to the city's mean, violent streets. It introduces a colorful new hero for our time - and a dazzling heroine every bit his equal. A spy mystery...a crime thriller...a passionate romance: Hunter is a genre-bending novel unlike any you've read. Deviously plotted, filled with vivid characters, and propelled at a breakneck pace.

Not a bad story
Revisado: 07-13-16
I have listened to this and the next book (Review Bad Deeds) - I like the story line but find the narrator a little annoying, all the male voices are overplayed to me.
The storyline is quite good and aside from some gratuitous violence and overuse of descriptives, I enjoyed the story. Some editing would have helped.

Gripping!
Revisado: 05-04-16
A gripping tale with appropriate twists, very good listening. Enjoyed the narrator, except for the Australian accents - and it is Geelong with first 'g' pronounced as a 'j'. Took me quite a while to work out where the author was referring to... This did not detract from the story of course

Dreadful accents
Revisado: 05-01-16
This was too long and wordy for me, needs editing. The Australian accent was truly awful. This is my least favorite of this series, I have enjoyed the others however.

Historia
The first in her Detective Emmanuel Cooper series, A Beautiful Place to like a brilliant combination of Raymond Chandler and Die marks the debut of a talented writer who reads Graham Greene. It is a tale of murder, passion, corruption, and the corrosive double standard that defined an apartheid nation.
