A 5 star emotional roller coaster!

If I like a book I usually give it 3 stars, if I don’t like it I don’t finish it. A few books I give 4 stars because they move my imagination or my emotions. I save 5 stars for the best, for the ones that make me get out of bed so I won’t fall asleep before I finish. The Good Daughter makes me wish there was a 6 star option. So many mysteries, so many surprises, so many questions with each answer bringing new questions. Masterful storytelling with an ending worth the time spent and the tears shed.

Best I’ve read in many months

David Copperfield is my favorite Dickens book so far, so I was skeptical about a retelling of the story. I’m glad I overcame my skepticism and started listening. The book far surpassed my expectations. I felt the emotions high and low of Demon as his life unfolded before me. I lived the anger, joy, hope, and hopelessness of a life lived in constant agony but with determination to survive and somehow find a way to help others. Fabulous writing and narration.

I loved the books, the worlds she conjured and the characters who lived there. the descriptions of places and events were rich and moving and the narration was far better than most with emphasis and emotion that pulled me into every event.

I rarely give a book 5 stars, I worry that I will read something better and have no better rating. This was something better. The author wove a web covering 75 years and four generations with great skill and historical accuracy. This one will be with me for a long time.

Looked interesting so I grabbed it, it made no sense, I started over twice and realized it was book 2 of a series so I grabbed book 1. I’m glad I did, great story, great characters, a real page turner. But read “Deep Sleep” first.

I’m retired and catching up on all the reading I never had time for. I’ve read hundreds of book in the past 5 or 6 years, I rarely give a 5 star rating because I know sometimes a truly extraordinary book will come along, and I’ll be glad I saved the rating of 5. This was that book. I laughed, I cried more, and often I just stoped and thought. Read it, you’ll learn something and hopefully feel something.
