Very disappointed

I've read this entire series. Over the past several books it has felt like a different writer. Sadly this book fell very flat. I'm struggling to put my finger on what has happened to the writing.
The characters have changed their personalities so often that I don't even recognize them anymore. I understand that people change as they age but they don't even sound like they are being written by the same writer now. The dialog is hard to listen to. I made it to chapter 10 and have lost complete interest in finishing it. Marino has always been gruff, but now he is beyond obnoxious. I used to enjoy the relationship between him and Scarpetta but not for the last 5 books or so. Scarpetta has never been written as arrogant but that is what she comes across as now. Which is a little better than than the doormat she was in the prior 2+ books. I think I'm done with this series sadly.

Enjoyed the listen...

I disagree with a few of the poor reviews. I rather enjoyed the narrator. I've come across a few that I truly couldn't stand listening to, but I had no real issues with this narrator. The story was interesting and it didn't take long to get into it. It might have been a little predictable, but I still really enjoyed the storyline. And I listen to on average 5 books a week at least. This was a suggestion included in my membership and I will definitely listen to more by this author.

Surprising and engaging

I did not know what to expect when I downloaded the free book. I was caught up in the book right away. I am usually able to guess a mystery, but this one had quite a few twists and turns. Great read and I plan on listening to more of this author now. Highly recommend this book.

Obnoxious female character

This was new author I tried during a sale. I made it as far as chapter 7 and I just couldn't listen anymore. The narrator was good, but the story lacked any sympathy for the lead heroine. She was completely pretentious and grated on my last nerve. Sorry, I tried.
