Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

great book, terrible ending
Revisado: 08-14-23
This book is addictive. The story sucked me in and the fast pace never let up. The ending was vague and unsatisfying. It was a shame after such a great read.

The least tragic story of WWII
Revisado: 07-26-23
I only listened a few minutes until I had to stop. I kept thinking, was this the same day that Elie Wiesel and thousands of others were marched out of Auschwitz on the Death March? was this the same day the Nazis bombed the gas chambers to hide their crimes? was this the same day ... you get the idea. The Prussian "refugees" and the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustav are the least tragic stories of WWII. I felt no sympathy or connection at all. this was my second purchase because of a tik tok review.

Feed is an electrifying and critically acclaimed novel of a world a half-step from our own that the New York Times calls “Astonishing” a novel of zombies, geeks, politics, social media, and the virus that runs through them all - from New York Times best seller Mira Grant. The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beat the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: Feed.

Tweeners YA novel
Revisado: 07-07-23
This book was recommended on BookTok. The book is definitely YA, very young YA. I listened to a few chapters, right up until the intrepid protagonist stated, "far be it for me to challenge a woman in her own kitchen." I cant believe authors are still writing this crap.

Boring and Slow
Revisado: 06-28-23
This book is so boring. The stories are incredibly slow and I never made it to the end of the book. I jumped ahead and listened to the last few minutes of the final story and got the general gist. I cant recommend this one.

Historia
S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle's wild crows (i.e. "those idiots"), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos®. Then Big Jim's eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to think something isn't quite right. Even the slobbering affection of Big Jim's loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis, fails to cure Big Jim's debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis.

really gets old fast
Revisado: 06-25-23
While intriguing and witty at first, the feeling cannot be sustained. Nothing of much note happens in the story. The death of a few characters is clearly contrived for shock value. Ultimately, I skimmed thru the last few chapters without much interest.

almost unusable
Revisado: 04-02-23
This book is almost unusable. The narrator provides approximately 3 words, then requests that you repeat a 10 - 15 word sentence. You have learned only 3 words in the sentence, so the remainder is close to gibberish. The format is quite unrealistic.

Too long and fantastical
Revisado: 01-16-23
I enjoyed this book, but it was much too long. It has a mystical foundation, and the devil himself makes an appearance. it was not what I was expecting, but it was an interesting read. I admit, I started skipping past the Roland/King chapters, and ultimately, at about 20 hours in, I finally skipped to the last five chapters. I would recommend it only to readers who enjoy fantasy and mysticism. the narration was excellent.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

I tried, but couldn't read it
Revisado: 12-09-22
The first chapter talks about the devastation of Germany, homeless and hungry Germans, women doing GI laundry and how cold it was at the River. All I could think was, good. They deserve it. The German "wasnt" a Nazi, because he didnt want to join. That excuse didnt work at Nuremberg and it is just as distasteful here. This "wonderfully compassionate" pilot helped Nazis murder 6 million Jews and others by torturing them to death. My greatest wish is that the pilot died alone, and tortured by guilt. Nothing he did can erase his complicity.
I couldnt even finish the first chapter. To the author: he was a Nazi.
