Historia
The celebrated 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific, winner of eight Emmy Awards, was based on two classic books about the War in the Pacific, Helmet for My Pillow and With The Old Breed. Audible Studios, in partnership with Playtone, the production company co-owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and creator of the award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers, John Adams, and The Pacific, as well as the HBO movie Game Change, has created new recordings of these memoirs, narrated by the stars of the miniseries.

SLEDGEHAMMER HITS HOME!
Revisado: 08-25-14
Where does With the Old Breed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the top reads! This read transports you to the islands of the Pacific where you truly walk amongst the "Old Breed" fighting off the Japanese, disease and exhaustion as you trudge on through the hardships the Marines suffered during the great war!
What did you like best about this story?
Joe Mazzello returns as Eugene Sledge and enables the reader to continue his life where HBO's "The Pacific" left off. It was engaging and having the stories told by Mazzello felt like you were reliving history with Eugene!
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
EVERYTHING!

It's Warren Time!
Revisado: 08-25-14
What did you like best about The Demonologist? What did you like least?
The accounts of real life possessions and theories on demons was most interesting, but the structure of the writing was a bit messy. Accounts could be better organized.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Sort of disappointed at the end. The Warrens are the godfather and godmother of ghost investigating in the 20th and 21st century! The accounts read in this book are engaging, but many of times it felt like you were listening to the same information only worded slightly different.
What aspect of Todd Haberkorn’s performance would you have changed?
Todd did a great job of vocalizing the characters differently.

Against the backdrop of 18th and 19th-century New Orleans, A New Orleans Voudou Priestess: The Legend and Reality of Marie Laveau disentangles the complex threads of the legend surrounding the famous Voudou priestess. According to mysterious, oft-told tales, Laveau was an extraordinary celebrity whose sorcery-fueled influence extended widely from slaves to upper-class whites.

Voodoo Yawn!
Revisado: 08-25-14
What would have made A New Orleans Voudou Priestess better?
The book is full of great historical facts, records and information, however, it lacks all the soul. You would expect a story about the infamous Voodoo Priestess of New Orleans to be a little more engaging with it's material, but in the end, it reads more like an in-depth thesis project or research paper. While the book is geared as non-fiction, a tad bit more of a narrative feel would not be amiss.
Would you ever listen to anything by Carolyn Morrow Long again?
As long as Ian Eugene Ryan wasn't reading it.
What didn’t you like about Ian Eugene Ryan’s performance?
Mr. Ryan sounded as if he was falling asleep while reading the book, which was exactly what was happening to me as I listened to him. With all due respect, Ian Eugene Ryan sucked the life from the story. While the material was dry to begin with, Mr. Ryan turned it as bone dry as the corpses rotting in St. Louis Cemetery!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A New Orleans Voudou Priestess?
If I could play editor, I would have hired someone with a bit more gusto to read the book. However, the structure of the book would also need a bit of tweaking and while I would keep the facts and records where they are, I'd be sure to make them more bearable to listen to. Many readers who would consider this of interest are looking for something to immerse themselves in the origins of this folklorish legend, but wouldn't be the type to stomach hours upon hours of dry, unimaginable, non-engaging fact!

"DIVE" into this book!
Revisado: 08-25-14
Would you listen to The War Below again? Why?
Absolutely! Great storytelling of the little known history of the submariner during World War 2! I've actually visited the U.S.S Drum in Alabama prior to reading this book, and so I could imagine the corridors and compartments as I listened to this book!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The War Below?
All of it! You really started to relate and envision the Captains of these subs and the dangers they went through during the war!
What about Donald Corren’s performance did you like?
Consistent and engaging throughout his performance.

Historia
These are true stories from the highways and byways of America. These first-hand accounts are as varied as the storytellers themselves—some are detailed and filled with the terror and suspense that made people feel they had to share what happened to them with others; others are brief and straightforward retellings of truly chilling events.

Spooky and corny all rolled into one!
Revisado: 08-25-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The voice actors are horrible. Putting that out there first and foremost. It's absolutely the worst part of the book. For one, they overact! Everything is embellished to the point that even if you wanted to believe the ghost stories, the actors keep you from getting there! Secondly, they have both female and male voice actors, but don't bother to separate them by the gender of the storyteller, so you have some stories from male eyewitnesses read by the female actress and it again diminishes the fear factor. I don't mean to sound sexist, but if a story is written by "Larry the Truck Driver" and your voice actor is purposely trying to sound like him, then shouldn't it be a guy who sounds like Larry and not like "Linda the School Teacher?"
Would you recommend Trucker Ghost Stories to your friends? Why or why not?
Despite the horrible voice acting, while driving on the open road listening to this, I found myself keeping pace with trucks and cars in front of me. I didn't want to be left behind on the dark roads alone because some of these stories do give you the chills!
How could the performance have been better?
HAHAHA! OH MY GAWD! YES!!!!! The voice actors should give the money back that they got paid for acting in these stories! They did a dis-service to ghost storytellers around the world!
Was Trucker Ghost Stories worth the listening time?
Like I said, if you can overlook the voice actors, and you want something to keep you awake on the road while driving those long stretches of highways. Snag this book!
Any additional comments?
Ummmm, did I mention the voice acting was horrible?

A Dalek does it better!
Revisado: 11-04-13
What did you like best about this story?
It's Doctor Who meets Batman, or whatever vigilante movie/story you love! The dark undertones, mixed with an action packed adventure made me really wish this had made it to television screen!
What does Nicholas Briggs bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Nicholas Briggs proved that his talents far surpass screaming "Exterminate!" on the Doctor Who television series. Briggs did a Ninth Doctor style FANTASTIC job of narrating this story. His Rose Tyler was excellent, but his Ninth Doctor was second to none (well, okay second to Ecceleston). His version of Captain Jack was a bit odd, and I think the other actor who joined Briggs would have done a better Harkness, but overall it did really feel like you were listening to Ecceleston performing the story, which in the end trumps any shortcoming.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
For sure!

A Hounded Adventure
Revisado: 11-04-13
What did you like best about Doctor Who: The Hounds of Artemis? What did you like least?
The story is very well written, and exciting to hear. However, the narration really hinders the heck out of the story. While Matt Smith brings his usual excited Doctor voice to the presentation, Clare Corbett RUINS the story. I didn't so much mind listening to her narrate, but it was so intermingled with Matt Smith that it was jarring and threw you out of the story every time she took over. On top of that, Corbett's voice for the Doctor was HORRIBLE! By attempting to give the Doctor a lower voice (I'm assuming she felt this was necessary because she's a woman?), she definitely ruins the character during her segments. Her Doctor's mannerisms are closer to the 10th Doctor then the 11th, and that just makes it more confusing.
What aspect of Matt Smith and Clare Corbett ’s performance would you have changed?
Matt Smith of course nailed his performance. As for Clare Corbett, no offense to the narrator, but it would have been better if she had just sat this one out entirely. She had NO understanding of the Doctor, and I question if she had ever even seen an episode of the series before.
Any additional comments?
I'm sorry, Clare Corbett, but again, why were you in this story?!

FANTASTIC!
Revisado: 10-07-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Doctor Who to be better than the print version?
A great listen! David Tennant makes this story come alive, another fantastic tale of adventure with the Doctor!
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Doctor of course, Tennant in the role was the best!
What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?
He did a great job performing the other character's voices, especially Jackie and Mickey. His Rose was hysterical and the "Genie" voice was pretty amusing as well!
