Historia
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

50/50 informative/annoying
Revisado: 05-11-25
Careless People offers an undeniably interesting glimpse into the inner workings of one of the most powerful tech corporations of our time. The author’s account sheds light on how a company founded by an idealistic and arguably naive CEO evolved into a global force with far-reaching influence. The details about internal operations, policy conflicts, and behind-the-scenes decision-making are eye-opening and informative.
However, the book is weighed down by the author’s own tone. Sarah Wynn-Williams’s writing often veers into self-righteousness, and her immaturity and overt liberal idealism at times make the narrative feel more like a personal reckoning than a balanced critique. Her attempts at self-awareness come off as performative rather than reflective, and it’s difficult not to be distracted by the contradiction between her moral outrage and her years of complicity.
In the end, while the book has merit as a cautionary tale and a rare insider account, it might leave readers wishing for a more measured and self-critical narrator.

Historia
Computers have changed since 1981, when Tracy Kidder memorably recorded the drama, comedy, and excitement of one company's efforts to bring a new microcomputer to market. What has not changed is the feverish pace of the high-tech industry, the go-for-broke approach to business that has caused so many computer companies to win big (or go belly up), and the cult of pursuing mind-bending technological innovations.

Classic novel - a must read/listen

The Nova, Eclipse and MV Series are in my blood. I worked with them at Rockwell on the Space Shuttle program and at Data General ac a system engineer and marketing dude for many years. Classic story- better than fiction. I wonder why the movie never came to be. My only criticism of the audio version is a few mispronunciations such as kluge😎

Historia
As a senior non-commissioned officer of Delta Force, the most elite and secretive special operations unit in the US military, Command Sergeant Major Tom Satterly fought some of this country's most fearsome enemies. Tom is a legend even among other Tier One special operators. Yet the enemy that cost him three marriages, and ruined his health physically and psychologically, existed in his brain. Told through Satterly's firsthand experiences, it also weaves in the reasons for his career-long battle against the most insidious enemy of all: post-traumatic stress.

Great book but should have hired a professional narrator .

Good, honest narrative. But narrated by the author who reads his work in a flat monotone. Suggest a re-release with pro narrator to show the full potential of a powerful story.

I worked at Rockwell on the space shuttle program a year before and two years after the first launch and this book’s details are smack on. The author’s style is as entertaining as it is informative. The narrator has a pleasant voice and pace but needs to learn how to omit his frequent inhalations from the audio. Overall - highly recommended.

You do not have to be an aviation aficionado to enjoy Colonel Steve Ladd’s fascinating personal tale, woven around his 28-year career as a fighter pilot. This extremely engaging account follows a young man from basic pilot training to senior command through the narratives that define a unique ethos. From the United States to Southeast Asia; Europe to the Middle East; linking the amusing and tongue-in-cheek to the deadly serious and poignant, this is the lifelong journey of a fighter pilot.

Insight into an Air Force pilot's life, not flying
Revisado: 08-20-23
As many have commented, this is not a book about combat flying, but it does give insight into how it was to be an Air Force pilot in the 60's - 80s. The narrator has a habit of treating commas as periods with too much pausing but it didn't turn me off to the book.

Historia
On his second combat tour, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Decent story about a real patriot
Revisado: 05-13-21
Good story. Rare patriot that served his country through a half century of conflicts. The guy that reads the story is irritating because he whispers at the end of every sentence - unusual voice delivery.

John Plaster’s riveting account of his covert activities as a member of a special operations team during the Vietnam War is “a true insider’s account...this eye-opening report will leave readers feeling as if they’ve been given a hot scoop on a highly classified project” (Publishers Weekly). Code-named the Studies and Observations Group, SOG was the most secret elite US military unit to serve in the Vietnam War - so secret that its very existence was denied by the government.

Whiney and biased.

Liberally biased.Jonathan whines a lot about how he and the poor news media is so mistreated by the big bad orange man.
Tiring to listen to him (he narrates his own work) whine and complain, bitch and moan. Not only the content but his delivery is full of venom and spends a lot of time patting himself on the back. Unless you are a never Trumper, suggest you pass.
