Narration overly dramatic!
Revisado: 10-05-24
Overly melodramatic narration. I enjoyed the first book of this series, but the second volume was so dramatized that this listener could focus on little else. I had to force myself to finish those book.

Narration was exceptional, best in years.! Ms Smith’s performance was as relaxed and natural, authentic, as though she were relating tales from her own life experiences. Outstanding on all fronts.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

In Before Amen best-selling author Max Lucado joins listeners on a journey to the very heart of biblical prayer, offering hope for doubts and confidence even for prayer wimps. Distilling prayers in the Bible down to one pocket-sized prayer, Max reminds listeners that prayer is not a privilege for the pious nor the art of a chosen few. Prayer is simply a heartfelt conversation between God and his child. Let the conversation begin.

A Max-like narrator
Revisado: 08-02-17
Outstanding performance! Ben captured Max's wit and passion. In a previous Lucido book, I had to exert my best efforts to focus ON the message and OFF the voice of the narrator, who seemed far more determined to demonstrate that he could enunciate and keep a professional tone than on the humanity of the message.
Great job! Great book!

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

One of the best Audible books I've 'read.' Tightly wound story with new 'clues' just around the next chapter. Skillful narrators (LIVE Bahni Turpin's books). Perhaps this book is better suited to a female audience.

What made the experience of listening to The Lake House the most enjoyable?
Another excellent read! Kate Morton's forte is spinning a mystery with just enough twists and turns to keep you from deciphering all the clues until her moment of revelation. And once again, thumbs up to Caroline Lee's talented reading -- precise shift in emotions and voice patterns from character to character. MORE, please, Ms. Morton!

Sharron Kahn Luttrell was still mourning the death of her beloved German shepherd when she decided to volunteer as a weekend puppy raiser .But Daisy, an adorable bundle of fur the color of buttered toast, captures Sharron's heart the moment she's handed the leash. And while Keith, the convict who cares for and trains Daisy during the week, seems intimidating at first, he is soft-spoken and polite. What's more, Daisy's appearance on Fridays, freshly scrubbed and sweet smelling, seems further evidence of his gentle nature.

Distracting Narration
Revisado: 12-23-14
Where does Weekends with Daisy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
average or slightly below
What other book might you compare Weekends with Daisy to and why?
None
What three words best describe Jane Jacobs’s voice?
extreme, distracting, inappropriate
Ms. Jacobs' enunciation is so very precise that it had no "everyday" quality for this tale of a family's relationship with training dogs. She is an expressive storyteller, but her diction was like an opera singer crooning "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." I laughed right out loud when she read the few instances of cursing: "Oh shit!" "He was pissed off!" Those words would never have come from the mouth (or the pen) of the person this narrator suggests. Distracting!!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Historia
Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else - for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy?

Good book - poor audio editing
Revisado: 01-30-13
Where does What's So Amazing About Grace? rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Handy way to reinforce studying this book
What other book might you compare What's So Amazing About Grace? to and why?
Gary Chapman's "The Five Love Languages" and other spiritual non-fictions that have accompanying study guides.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator's voice is easy to listen to, BUT the editors did a poor job! When the narrator corrects himself, both the flub and the correction are included -- e.g. narrator decides he didn't read a couple of sentences in the way the author intended or he mispronounces words/phrases, so he records that section a 2nd time with the improvement -- BOTH flub and correction are in this Audible.com version.

Historia
As believers, our walk with God is motivated by hope, not the bland, vague notion most people have, but the expectation of an exotic, pleasurable inheritance that guides us and fires our passion...or, at least, should. Ted Dekker has written an expose on the death of pleasure within the Church. Because many of us have set aside hope and the inspired imagination that drives it, Dekker says we have been lulled into a slumber of boredom, even despondency.

Great info, tedious performance
Revisado: 07-09-12
What made the experience of listening to The Slumber of Christianity the most enjoyable?
the ideas presented and the practical analogies
Who was your favorite character and why?
no characters - this is a nonfiction work
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator's voice is clear and understandable, but the listening is tedious because this narrator seems far more focused on his performance than on the ideas he's communicating to the listener. Three in our family have listened to this audio book, and all have the same opinion of the performance.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
The focus of Christians should be on Him, on the joy of the Hereafter with Him. We short-change our joy by failing to lift our focus heavenward.
Any additional comments?
I would recommend the printed version for this book rather than this audio book.
