Historia
Around about September of 1948, Mr and Mrs Cyril Wakeman had an early night. And some time later, at Perivale in Middlesex, Mrs Wakeman produced a bonny baby son. They named him Richard, but he quickly became known as Rick.
Rick was a likable little fellow who had a talent for the piano (and for making trouble), and music became his life. Later, he joined a popular music group called Yes and became a legend.

Such a fun listen
Revisado: 03-16-20
Rick weaves a story like few other musicians. He talks to the reader/ listener not at the reader/ listener. He also has a vocal delivery that just makes me smile. It's like sitting in a pub listening to a dear friend tell stories... which, I guess what this book really is.

Historia
There is a paradox. As children, most of us think we are highly creative; as adults many of us think we are not. What changes as children grow up? Organizations across the globe are competing in a world that is changing faster than ever. They say they need people who can think creatively, who are flexible and quick to adapt.

very dry
Revisado: 03-02-20
Robinson has been a great presenter during TED talks with interesting points and a welcoming conversational delivery that allows an audience of diverse people into his world. I was intrigued to become involved with this book. Wow, this book has very little in common with Robinson's presentations. This book is so dry and almost prides itself on providing endless figures and lists. The narrator certainly does not help the matter by providing a droll and monotone delivery. Most things that I was excited to explore in this book are lacking greatly. This book is not welcoming to the readers/ listeners.

Historia
I interview my neighbors in our shockingly haunted town Wellesley, Massachusetts and I transcribe their tales for my blog Ghosts in the Burbs. Three women told me a horrific tale from their past and in doing so involved me in their horror. You may have heard part of this story before but I didn't tell you everything.... This is the complete story of Claire.

I don't think I am the target audience
Revisado: 01-04-20
this felt to me like a "friends" paranormal soap opera. I couldn't like any of the characters, even the narrator. Each of the characters appeared to be overly self indulged.

Historia
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

I really expected a lot more from this book
Revisado: 04-04-14
What do you think your next listen will be?
H.P. Lovecraft read by Wayne June
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Odd character voices that appeared to be characatures rather than characters.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
it had moments where references to other books or characters might lead to something far more grand, but never developed. It could have been grand... it should have been grand.
Any additional comments?
Alcohol appears to be the main villain in this book. it certainly puts up more of a fight than any of the other antagonists. I was so looking forward to a grand adventure and thrill ride... instead, I got a temperance lecture. whee.

Historia
While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

please, no more french accents.
Revisado: 08-10-13
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Paul Michael?
I would have preferred a female narrator for the female characters. Paul is very good, but when the french accents came in, It was Monty Python and the Holy Grail all over again.... "I'm FRENCH you see-ly King'ga! Why Do you think I have this OUT--RRAG--GEOUS Accent!?!"
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment, laughter, then frustration that I purchased something that I can not return.

Historia
Art & Fear explores the way art gets made, the reasons it often doesn't get made, and the nature of the difficulties that cause so many artists to give up along the way. This is a book about what it feels like to sit in your studio or classroom, at your wheel or keyboard, easel or camera, trying to do the work you need to do. It is about committing your future to your own hands, placing free will above predestination, choice above chance. It is about finding your own work.

a wonderful and necessary read for artists
Revisado: 01-09-13
If you could sum up Art & Fear in three words, what would they be?
encouraging, enlightening, reaffirming.
What did you like best about this story?
encouragement in a language that creatives all speak, musicians, visual artists, dancers, culinary artists, sculptors, it speaks to all of us in our language. It provides a path out of frustration and the option of quitting the creative process.
What about Arthur Morey’s performance did you like?
Solid and soothing.

Why has this classic been so popular over the years with its presence in films, books, radio, and television? It is the mythology of the primordial steps of man's advancement. David Ian Davies has achieved great success in capturing each character with their own unique sound.

It was fun.
Revisado: 08-06-12
If you could sum up Tarzan of the Apes in three words, what would they be?
bygone age adventure
What did you like best about this story?
it moves quickly
What does David Ian Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He brings a depth and bridge of personal closeness between an older text to a younger listener. He makes this probably more fun than it might be just to read.
Any additional comments?
I would listen to additional Burroughs books if the same narrator was providing the reading.
