Historia
It’s the year 2101, and half of England is underwater, but the horrors of the Melt are becoming a distant memory thanks to ArkTech, the company that saved the world. The ArkTech Territory is the only home Charlotte Vance has ever known, so when Ben, the company’s curious AI, starts asking awkward questions about human behaviour, she's only too happy to help.

Enjoyable story. Loved The Melt name! I think I wouldn't feel as close to the AI as the main character did! Glad to have some closure and positive vibes at the end. The end read like a Book #1 of a series?

Historia
DI Adams fled London to escape bridge-dwelling monsters and magical toasties - a one-time experience she's in no hurry to repeat. She's police, not some cryptid hunter. Leeds has other plans, though. Tasked with the seemingly mundane case of a missing necklace, Adams soon realises she's stumbled into something inexplicable. The trinket is dangerous, and she's the only one who recognises it for what it is - a weapon that could tear the North apart.

A good follow-up
Revisado: 01-19-25
I enjoyed this urban fantasy mystery novel, it makes a great sequel. I like these books better than the author's others. while not including in your face battle magic like the Benedict Jacka Fated series, it does have a lot of magical elements subtly introduced, with a slow build.
while the narrator was well chosen for this character, she has some weird enunciations, with accents on the wrong syllable or emphasis on the wrong word, and her reading speed changes from really slow reading or slow enunciating, to very fast with the words jumbled together. hard to get a consistent play speed selected.
I'm looking forward to a third book, if there is one.

Historia
When Ray Lilly was 13 years old, a handgun accident landed his best friend, Jon Burrows, in a wheelchair and turned Ray into a runaway and petty criminal. Fifteen years later, Ray returns home after a stint in prison; he's determined to go straight, but he knows he can't do that without making peace with his old friend. What Ray doesn't expect is that Jon has just received a mysterious cure - not only is he out of his wheelchair, he seems stronger and faster than...well, pretty much anyone.

Gross and childish

This is disgusting horror with a stupid & arrogant main character. The narrator is horrible at female voices. I'm asking for my credit back.

Baton. Light. Chocolate. Duck. This is not DS Adams' usual kit. This is not DS Adams' usual case. She doesn't think it's anyone's usual case, not with the vanishing children and the looming bridge and the hungry river. Not with the snap-snap-snap. But six kids are missing, and she's not going to let there be a seventh. Not on her watch. And she knows how to handle human monsters, after all. How different can this really be?

well done
Revisado: 09-19-24
I really enjoyed listening to this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
it's a gritty crime mystery thriller set in mainstream current time London with a dangerous underlying (magical?) world seeping through that only some people can see.
at first, I wasn't crazy about the narrator - in the beginning her pace would change so drastically that I kept having to adjust the playback speed. and her articulation style was different. either I got used to her style, or she evened out, because it wasn't an issue after the first couple chapters. in fact, I grew to appreciate her subtle infusions throughout the story.

A book about friendship, the greater good, how everything is connected, and a little magic and wonder. Great narration. Has a slow spot in the middle, just stick with it. I wonder if there will be a sequel!

Historia
In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.

Grave Sight draws listeners into the intriguing world of Harper Connelly, a woman with a unique gift: she can "see" the deceased and how they died. A teenage girl from a small Ozarks town is missing and feared dead. Hired by local police, Harper locates the girl's body in a nearby forest. But there's more than one corpse in those woods, and the second one raises questions no one wants to ask.

I loved listening to this narrator and I love the problem solving fantasy/sci-fi mystery novels. this one had just enough weird to stay interesting. the main character was intriguing as well, and it was adult enough but not too depressing or too violent. I'll buy the next one!

Historia
Stella is enjoying life as an almost student, or at least she is until a man falls from the sky right in front of her, leaving a big old hole in the pavement for Manchester Council to fill. The obvious question of how he ended up in the sky in the first place has no obvious answers, which is where The Stranger Times come in. This isn't just the hunt for another story though. Dark powers think Stella might have been involved and the only way she and the team can prove her innocence is to find out what the hell is really going on.

Historia
When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now, she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy. Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon—once a parable to her—are starting to come true, how much future is actually left?
