The Overlords appeared suddenly over every city - intellectually, technologically, and militarily superior to humankind. Benevolent, they made few demands: unify earth, eliminate poverty, and end war. With little rebellion, humankind agreed, and a golden age began.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this audiobook to a friend. It's one of Arthur C. Clarke's best novels and really good science fiction. It depicts the encounter with an alien race, a really hard thing to do well, in well thought and interesting manner. I usually like science fiction that describes future in terms that are almost unfathomable for modern human and the concepts in this book are just that.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The young scientist Jan was my favorite character. He had curiosity, intelligence and he felt trapped in the world engineered by the Overlords. He used his intelligence to break free from this prison, but with unforeseen consequences.
What does Eric Michael Summerer and Robert J. Sawyer (Introduction) bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The introduction by Robert J. Sawyer provided a little background into how this book was received by the public and how Arthur C. Clarke himself felt about it. I think it was a good addition to the audiobook.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If not in one sitting, there were moments I wanted to continue listening the story, but had to put it on hold. The last one and half hours I listened unable to stop.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would have liked to hear more anecdotes from the author, rather than a psychiatrist explaining technical details of internet.

Historia
The Ancestor's Tale is a pilgrimage back through time - a journey on which we meet up with fellow pilgrims as we and they converge on our common ancestors. Chimpanzees join us at about six million years in the past, gorillas at seven million years, orangutans at 14 million years, as we stride on together, a growing band. The journey provides the setting for a collection of some 40 tales.

Not-so-common perspective on evolution

Which character – as performed by Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward – was your favorite?
Both were good readers. Obviously Dawkins is an experienced lecturer and reads his own book as well as anyone could. However, the constant change between the two readers (one might read the main text while the other reads quotations, and then this is reversed in next chapter) was annoying interruption in the flow of the narration.

Between fascinating and superficial
Revisado: 02-26-16
What made the experience of listening to The Brain the most enjoyable?
The stories about people with some sort of brain malfunction or the reported psychological tests gave insight into how our minds work as an individual, within a group or between groups. The speculations about future brain-environment interactions, artifical intelligences and transhumanism were one of the best parts of this book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
From stupid molecules to cosmic consciousness.
Any additional comments?
For most parts, the book felt like a list of different kinds of brain phenomenon with superficial explanations on them. I was already aware of many of the topics in this book, so I didn't get as much new information as someone else might get. Still, this audiobook worked nicely as a catalyst for thinking about brains and minds while taking walks.
