Historia
Almost a decade ago, Willie Revel gave up her burgeoning journalism career in New York to help run her father’s struggling construction company in Philadelphia. An ambitious single mother, Willie has reluctantly put family first without being able to forget who she might have become. Now, as the president of the United States prepares to pass the Forgiveness Act, a bill that would allow Black families to claim reparations if they can prove they are the descendants of slaves, Willie delves deeper into her family’s history, while also trying to keep the family from going into bankruptcy.

Thought Provoking, Well-Written story
Revisado: 03-08-24
This is a single family’s view on what would happen if reparations for slavery were given. It is well written and very thought provoking. The narrator was very good until she tried to do a male voice or a random character. She slips into a distracting, nasal tone. Overall, highly recommend!

I have been meaning to listen to this one for a long time, I love Agatha Christie and have listened to several of her books. This one is by far my favorite. Lots of intrigue, of course, and lots of heart too.

Amusing Romance made amazing my the Narrator!
Revisado: 08-01-21
This was such a fun listen! The romance is sweet and the supporting characters are laugh out loud funny - I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard at one particular scene. It's a light, fun story fabulously brought to life by the narrator. I highly recommend!!

Historia
Guilty Admissions weaves together the story of an unscrupulous college counselor named Rick Singer, and how he preyed on the desperation of some of the country's wealthiest families living in a world defined by fierce competition, who function under constant pressure to get into the "right" schools, starting with preschool; nonstop fundraising and donation demands in the form of multi-million-dollar galas and private parties; and a community of deeply insecure parents who will do anything to get their kids into name-brand colleges in order to maintain their own A-list status.

Well Researched and Fascinating!
Revisado: 08-01-21
I was obsessed with this story when it was in the news, it was so disturbing that people are getting away with this type of bad behavior. I found Nicole LaPorte's book to be well researched and very interesting. I did not want to stop listening. She gave great insight into how Rick operated and how parents got sucked into his scheme. I also found her research on colleges and admissions on a general level fascinating. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
In 1956, one year before federal troops escorted the Little Rock 9 into Central High School, 14-year-old Jo Ann Allen was one of 12 African American students who broke the color barrier and integrated Clinton High School in Tennessee. At first things went smoothly for the Clinton 12, but then outside agitators interfered, pitting the townspeople against one another. Uneasiness turned into anger, and even the Clinton Twelve themselves wondered if the easier thing to do would be to go back to their old school.

My 10 year old daughter read this and learned a lot from it. I read it after her and felt the same. The author was adeptly able to really put her feelings into this experience. It made it much more real to me than reading about it in the history books.

After a scandalous secret turns their fairytale wedding into a nightmare, Rebecca "Bex" Porter and her husband Prince Nicholas are in self-imposed exile. The public is angry. The Queen is even angrier. And the press is salivating. Cutting themselves off from friends and family, and escaping the world's judgmental eyes, feels like the best way to protect their fragile, all-consuming romance.

Historia
When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

Revisado: 01-27-20
I enjoyed this book so much! The story is fun and light and Ramon de Ocampo did an amazing job at the narration. His reading made me enjoy it even more. I laughed every time he read the texts between the characters. This is a great little love story that it very timely. The characters were likable and hilarious It took me out of my comfort zone at times, but that isn't a bad thing. I plan on watching this author, I think great things will continue to come from her!
