This book could have been cut in half. It was so slow. The story ragged on and on and I didn’t like the FMC at all. I’m happy the book was free on Audible. I would have been really upset if I used a credit for it.

It’s been a long time since I couldn’t stop listening to a book. The story is captivating and the characters are built up the correct way. The female narrator is terrible. She sounds like her nose is stopped up for most of the book. And sometimes she uses her male voice for the female character and I got confused as to who was speaking. All in all. I will listen to the next book simply because I like the story so much.

This book gripped me in a way that I haven't been gripped before. Why you might ask? Because representation matters, and this is the first time someone described my home country in a way that I could relate. I could hear my mom speaking like Jaya's mom, I could imagine the house, and the way it looked through Jaya's eyes, an American of Indian decent. I felt the joy of the festivals, felt the pain and plight of the women in the story. This book just took my breath away.

There are parts of the story that were a bit far fetched, but hey, this is a fictional story. I wish I knew why Lena was asked not to come back to India by Depak. I don't remember if that was ever addressed in the story, and if it was, I missed it.

This book was everything I didn't realize I was missing in books. I read Tail of Broken Wings a long time ago and that story also represented my life in so many ways. And now with this book, Sejal Badani has managed to make me feel all the feels again.

I hope you continue to write these stories Ms Badani. They mean so much to me. I look forward to your next book.

If you could sum up Fellside in three words, what would they be?

Guilt, murder, prison

If you’ve listened to books by M. R. Carey before, how does this one compare?

I think "The Girl with all the Gifts" was a much better story and had so much more suspense. I expected something like that while reading this story and was disappointed. Once I stopped comparing the two, I was able to enjoy this book more.

Any additional comments?

This book was engaging and kept me on my toes. I was gripped by the story, even if the story was slightly predictable. I guessed the twist with the ghost. I also felt the last couple of chapters just dragged on a bit. All in all, it was a good book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. the production was fantastic. I enjoyed the use of different people to voice the characters. I had a hard time separating Elizabeth Evans voice from that of Aelin from the Throne of Glass series, but once I made that distinction in my mind, the story flowed nicely.

There is a lot of world building at the beginning so push through. The book is worth it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Six of Crows?

Matthias and Nina's encounter in the Treasury in the Ice Palace. I can't say more or I'll spoil it.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They bring a lot of emotion and entertainment.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A few things. The narrator did not do a very good job differentiating between the female voices unless she was attempting an older lady. The story was too forced and didn't really feel authentic.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nicole Hite again?

Probably not

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She did a decent job with Kat's voice, but like I said above, she seemed to struggle with different female voices. And her voice for Lee was horrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

DIssapointment. This story could have been an amazing novel. It turned into a LIfetime movie.

Any additional comments?

My Goodreads/Amazon review:

So my thoughts on this book are going to be a little different than all the positive reviews I've read. I bought this book via Audible so I listened to the audio version.

I felt like I was in a Lifetime Movie. I really did. Although ALS is nothing to make light of, I felt the author, in an attempt to make people understand the severity of the disease, failed at a well-written novel. This was a Public Service Announcement for ALS.

Was Kat and Lee's journey compelling? No, I did not think so. It was too forced, it was too predictable and it was overly dramatic. There was no real character development. We are told that Kat had a tough childhood, that she was raised by Jojo's parents. We are told this, but in the last half of the book, Jojo disappears. She's not even mentioned after she attends the ALS support group meeting and Lee confesses he will not let Kat go. I mean she literally disappears from the story. She was sitting there one minute holding Kat's hand and then is no longer even mentioned again.

The HEA is too contrived. It is too unrealistic, and it is just not what I was expecting. Give the reality of this disease, not this fairytale If you are going to preach to the audience about pharmaceutical companies and their lack of investment in ALS research, then make it more about the story and less about the author's opinion on the matter.

I wish this author had written a novel about a true struggle. The characters were one dimensional and I was sadly disappointed.

Tarryn Fisher is a great writer. I adore her ability to weave words into great stories for the contemporary reader.

This book is a journey of Caleb and Olivia. The love they have for each other is reckless and at times destructive. Olivia has so much baggage that it is hard for her to be honest about her feelings. Her character can get a bit annoying at times, but I think that is by design. Her growth into maturity is part of the story. It is part of why this story works.

Caleb's desire to make Olivia happy is sweet. He tends to push his own feelings aside to help Olivia come into her own confidence to express her feelings and desires. But he also has his share of immature decisions and moves.

All in all, this is a good book. I enjoyed reading it and will continue the series.

What made the experience of listening to It Ends with Us the most enjoyable?

The emotions that Colleen Hoover brings out in me. The subject matter is very difficult; but necessary to discuss.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, it made me cry. Deep gut wrenching sobs. This book made me tap into emotions about my own life that made things so real for me.

Any additional comments?

My Amazon Review:

This book is one of the best I have ever read. Yes, I said EVER READ. The emotions I am feeling right now is so hard to put into words.

Colleen Hoover has taken something that is so difficult to talk about, so difficult to understand, and given us a mere glimpse into the life of domestic abuse. I am Lily, in that I too grew up in a household where domestic violence was the norm. Reading this book made me feel so many things. Anger at my own situation and scenarios that I witnessed growing up, annoyance every single time Lily forgave Ryle. My annoyance with her for not picking Atlas immediately. My imaginary view of life that says, "she should pick the sweet guy and her first love. She will have a happily ever after". But reality isn't a HEA romance. Reality isn't predictable choices to wrap things up in a pretty little bow.

This story of Lily's journey is so real, and so true it guts me. I think there are pieces of this book that made me wish my own Mother had made different choices. There are pieces of this book that remind me that my own Mother is also my hero. Thank you, Colleen Hoover, for writing a deeply personal book that not only helped me understand choices that my mother made, but helped me understand the choices I make too. j

This book will stay with me for a long time.

Any additional comments?

Not a bad book, just a simple easy read to pass the time. It has a marriage of convenience plot and not much character development. But to be honest, I didn't expect a lot from this book, I was looking for a good fluff book to read as a pallet cleanser between really heavy plot novels. All in all, it served its purpose. I read it in one afternoon.

Any additional comments?

Is a book considered “one of the best I’ve ever read” because it evokes a visceral reaction? Or is it the story? Or is it both? This book made me uncomfortable. But that doesn’t mean it was a bad book to read, it means the author had the ability to write a book that made me keep reading, regardless of my comfort level with the content.

This book is about a young girl, Wavy, falling in love with an older man named Kellen. This is not your typical older man falls in love with a younger girl type of book (i.e. Lolita). There are so many areas that this book made me cringe. The feelings Kellen has for Wavy when she is but a 7-year-old girl is cringe-worthy. However; the journey that Wavy takes to becoming a stable person is incredible.

There are so many horrible things that happen to Wavy in her life. She is raised by parents who don’t care and are always high. Her Mother is bi-polar and on her good days allows Wavy to take care of her. Wavy has experienced so much abuse, seen so many horrible things, that she stops talking, barely eats, and has taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger baby brother.
She is curious and shocked when she meets Kellen. He is big and huge and she feels somewhat comfortable with him. He realizes that Wavy needs someone to help her do basic things. He takes her to school, makes sure there are groceries in the house, and he cleans the house. Kellen takes on the role of caregiver to Wavy, but there are lines that are blurring as she starts to get older. And when I say older, I mean she’s still in 8th grade. That’s the cringe-worthy part.

The book is broken up into parts and told from many different perspectives. Each character is able to tell parts of the book in their voice. I enjoyed that writing style. I also enjoyed the journey of Wavy’s relationship with herself. Her ability to find her strength and move forward.

I highly recommend this book for a mature reader and one that can separate the literary beauty from the subject matter of the book. I have to admit there were times I told myself to stop reading this book, but I just couldn’t put it down. Bryn Greenwood has some writing chops and I hope to read more of her work.

I will be thinking about this book for a long time.
