Historia
When human bones are found beneath an old chapel in the woods, evidence suggests the remains could be linked to the decades-old case of missing teen Annalise Jansen. Homicide detective Jane Munro—pregnant and acutely attuned to the preciousness of life—hopes the grim discovery will finally bring closure to the girl’s family. But for a group of Annalise’s old friends, once dubbed the Shoreview Six by the media, it threatens to expose a terrible pledge made on an autumn night forty-seven years ago.

The author managed the shift between characters very effectively.

Please regard this as constructive critism. The author used an Afrikaans phrase "Wees die verandering wat jy wil sien in die wêreld". Unfortunately the narator was unable to pronounce the words correctly. As a Afrikaans speaking person I know Afrikaans pronunciation to be very difficult for others and I had to go to the written version to understand what the phrase actually was. I suggest that more effort is made to obtain and use the correct pronunciation of words/phrases in foreign languages, not only Afrikaans. But what fun it was to read/listen about bobotie, malva pudding, samosas, koeksisters, Table Mountain etc. The history of District Six without excessively bringing in politics was a refreshing experience.

I really disliked the narrator from the word go and was very disappointed. Sam Reeves' character sounds like a spoiled and whiny teenager playing in a grown-up world, not fitting in and having a tantrum. I seriously doubt if I'll listen to other works of this narrator. I did enjoy the change in Karen Roses' story telling style overall but I'll need to listen again to try and get past Sam's voice. It was a difficult listen.

I'm sorry but the narrator's rendition of the main female character is beyond awful. I'm not sure if the character was supposed to have a slight Italian accent or if her vocal cords are damaged but it is a cross between something. And using a grating voice and then calling it melodious just don't work. If my shrink had a voice like that I won't return for a second visit. The narrator's own voice is so pleasant so why give Tess "that" voice. The evil genius even sounds more pleasant.
