Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

High marks for recapturing the period in history, the power of human condition vs the new found power of propaganda. Against all odds, these rowers deserved every win they worked so hard to achieve. Thrilling listen.

Kid’s hilarious perspective
Revisado: 02-06-24
I liked everything, the complete story which ties all the chapters together, the narrator’s voice, the way it made me and my granddaughters laugh.

I kept waiting for some glimmer of hope for the people who passed through these woods. Different voices enhanced the mysteries unfolding, but the book left me empty.

Riveting and enjoyable stories- with a wide range of ideation. We didn’t even remember seeing Nebraska. This was my second listen, my husband’s first. Six stars!

Historia
Coalville is on fire—from below. The old mines are burning, and everyone has poison gas in their brain. Maybe that’s why the town is so corrupt. Now that he’s a Benedictine monk, Tommy Martini never wants to see the place again—hell-raisers there hold a grudge till they die, and he’s on their wish list. But a girl he once loved has gone missing, and his best friend from childhood has been murdered. Among the living is a shy girl from Tommy’s past, who wants to help. Together, they learn the secret of the elephant’s graveyard, and it’s not in Africa.

Bloody good storytelling
Revisado: 11-17-23
I cannot remember if I reviewed this after the first listen. My husband and I enjoyed it equally well the second time around. The protagonist attracts catastrophe among old grudges, crooked cops, lost souls and lost love as he avenges a friend’s death in his hometown. Excellent descriptions. A few sentences stand out so well, I smiled. Universal appeal for folks who are open-minded.

Historia
When Jem Rosco—sailor, adventurer, and legend—blows into town in the middle of an autumn gale, the residents of Greystone, Devon, are delighted to have a celebrity in their midst. But just as abruptly as he arrived, Rosco disappears again, and soon his lifeless body is discovered in a dinghy, anchored off Scully Cove, a place with legends of its own. This is an uncomfortable case for Detective Inspector Matthew Venn. Greystone is a place he visited as a child, a community he parted ways with. Superstition and rumor mix with fact as another body is found, and Venn finds his judgment clouded.

Simmering resentments
Revisado: 09-19-23
While slightly unbelievable, the audible version spelled the miles and kept us entertained… which, of course, was what we needed. Some common elements: the sea, the locals, superstition and stories that fuel suspense and threw us off the scent of whodunnit.

Revisado: 03-15-23
My husband and is enjoyed this mystery equally. It spelled the miles, stunningly told by the very articulate voice of the narrator. We stepped back into a different time where sleuthing unfolds at a pace that mirrors an era and social setting. Bravo! Our heroine rises above the expectations of her class and breeding- she has an inquisitive mind and is not afraid to use it. Wonderful listen. Dietre Mc

Historia
Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his wife, Detective Inspector Gemma James, have been invited for a relaxing weekend in the tranquil Cotswolds, one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic regions. A centerpiece of this glorious fall getaway is a posh charity luncheon catered by up-and-coming chef Viv Holland. But a tragic car accident followed by a series of mysterious deaths could ruin her ascent. Each piece of information that surfaces makes it clear that the killer had a connection with Viv’s pub - and perhaps with Beck House itself.

Agatha Christie and her equal in The Christie Affair
Revisado: 09-07-22
This has to be the book of 2022 for me and my daughters. The narrator creates a high dimension for listening, her voice modulating well with different people and dialects. Riveting, remarkable, resilient characters in face of life events that will forever change them- for the better. All is fair in the end; the conclusion can be considered sweet, slightly fanciful, but just what a reader needs.
